Did you get the vibration taken care of? What was the final outcome??

I ask because the feel of my steering wheel is driving me crazy. Put aside the fact that I went from non adaptive steering to the servotronic speed sensitive steering that is standard in the ///M. That alone is pissing me off. I am so used to how my steering used to be tight all the time, I really miss it. But back to my issue.

I'm still getting used to the difference between the 50i and the ///M. I had 19s on the 50i, and have the 20s on the ///M. I feel a slight vibration in the steering wheel at lower speeds (say up to 50-60 mph). Once I hit 65, I can see the steering wheel shutter. I haven't had time to go to the dealer. I was out with my brother today and he drove ( he has a B7) and I told him what I felt in the steering wheel. He says it's normal, it's due to the larger, wider tires. He feels the difference between his winter set up and his 21" wheels. I refuse to accept that this is normal. I should be able to get to the dealer soon, and I will see for myself when I put on the 19" wheels with the 255 snow tires but I'm curious. Did you have a shutter? Can you feel the difference between the 50i and the ///M? I'm OK with the ride but this is going to push me over the edge!

TIA
Super sorry for my lame-late response... I didn't see this.

I had 20"s on my ///M and have 20"s on my 50i.

On my ///M, I felt more steering wheel vibration (like a tiny bit out of balance) than I do my 50i. It was there on both the summer tires and the winters (Pirelli Scorpion RFT's). I recall bringing the ///M back into the tire shop after the first swap back to summers. They swore the tires were (road force) balanced perfectly. I guess I got used to it, but I remember thinking 'this is what a balanced ride is supposed to feel like.

I just switched out my summers for winter Scorpions again (still 20") on my 50i and the ride seems great/balanced.

I have no idea why the difference - can only think that the differences in suspension are causal.

FYI - my 50i has adaptive and I run in 'comfort' (non-sport) mode always.

Juanted and KYZRSOSE drove it but they said they didn't feel anything. I'm assuming it's because Juanted was driving so fast the wheels weren't on the pavement.

I had an appointment to take it in the week Sandy hit. The dealer was out of commission for a while. Then snow was in the forecast so I changed over to my winter set up - 19s with Pirelli RFT. The vibration is gone. I'll deal with it when I switch over again. Thanks for the response.

The power is ridiculous. When I unleash that M button.... Damn! The acceleration is neck jerking.

I always drove the 50i in sport mode. I liked the way it held me back in slower traffic as soon as I eased off the pedal. Less need for the brakes or downshifting. The ///M shifts differently in sport, it's very jerky.

Denalio - Sorry, I never saw your post. How are you liking yours?

I'm a bit of a nut when it comes to alignment and balance, so you can imagine I've been through this. As perfect as a road force balance should be, every hub is different and I would find a highly rated specialist who can road force as well as do an on car balance using a strobe...

My new (700 miles) x5M has zero vibration at any speed. Also, it does not jerk in sport mode. I have the M drive set to sport, sport and dynamic. You need to get those tires checked out Laura. Mine has Bridgestone Dueler HP sports (if that makes any difference). I am running 38 psi cold on all 4 corners. I would start there. Lastly, summer run flats sometimes vibrate when it is cold outside (I see you are in the Northeast). Perhaps your air is low as I have run into people who have vibration problems on other BMW models when the air pressure is not dialed in correctly.

I'm pretty good about checking my tire pressure. I have my winter set up on, 19" square set up (255s) Pireli RFTs. I usually run 34psi all around. I will bring it in to check the vibration when I put the summer wheels back on.

I do have a service appointment to check out my parking brake. I don't think it's holding correctly. I've been parking on a sloped driveway. With my foot on the brake, I engage the parking brake, take my foot off the brake pedal and shift into park. All is well until I shut off the engine. Then I jerk back. Me no like...I feel like I'm going to go through the garage door. I'll ask them to check out the shifting too. I'm using the same settings.

I can't wait until the weather warms up, I miss those monster tires.

They will get it sorted out for you. Sounds like maybe you need a brake adjustment because that jerk back should not be happening. The vibration must be related to the tires or wheels (possibly a bent rim?) because you are not experiencing the problem with your winter setup. Nice to join the small xM family here. I have been a lurker on xoutpost for years and remember when you started with your first x5 (and your username was cmyx5go) and watched as you and others (Kyzersoze, alexmish and some others I cannot remember) slowly moved up from the 6 cylinder models to 8 cylinders and, in your case, moved onto x6 from x5. I took an x hiatus for about 7 years so I have not been around here since circa 2006 and recently decided to get back into an x after falling in love with the x5m/x6m (needed another SUV and wanted an M5 so x5M was the perfect solution). I pondered the Cayenne Turbo and the ML63, but my love for BMW won over.

Jeez, it took you six years to post? That's a hell of a lurk. And for the record, I never drove a 6 cylinder

I have been a frequent poster over on bimmerfest for years since that forum caters to all BMW models and I have a few friends that hang out there. My last x bimmer was in 2006 so I never bothered to post here given that my posts would have had little value. The xM forum on bimmerfest has very little traffic except for the 3 other guys that joined me in purchasing a x5M or x6M in December 2012. I thought maybe I should check out xoutpost and I see that there are more xM owners here. BTW..sorry I got your 6 cylinder ownership wrong...my memory is not the best for internet forums since there is little brain space left once I finish stuffing all of the legal related stuff I have to remember in there.
