X5M hidden costs of ownership?

Looking to buy a used X5M (2010)
I am aware of the depreciation and gas mileage of course but wonder if there are any other hidden costs?

Can the X5M use the same tires as the non M X5? How often do you need new tires? (how fast do they wear out with normal driving?)

Anything else that I need to put into my budget when buying an X5M?

Thanks in advance!

What I am trying to find out is how much more expensive it is to own a X5M compared to say an X5 35d

Very much depends on the country where you live, km / year and what you do with your car. Here is what I'd suggest you consider, and put together a table to compare the figures:
  • Annual insurance
  • Annual road tax
  • Monthly payment (if you plan to take a loan or lease) differential
  • Fuel differential ( L / km) with your annual driving
  • Road tax & pollution surcharge (depending on countries) of your two alternative X5 choices.
  • Annual servicing
  • Depreciation - if you compare the same year and the 3.5D vs. X5M
  • Tires - part of your annual driving & style calculation

The stock tires are cheap and last at least 20k miles, not an issue. The M maintenance of a say e46 m3 is a lot more expensive than a regular 3er but X5M does not really have any M specific maintenance. I believe if car does not break down for some reason, the maintenance is pretty much on par with other x5's. what I worry is potential repair of anything engine related

Gregory891: I live in Sweden.
Insurance is high but I think it is worth it.
Road tax - The tax is actually not a big issue, for some reason the tax för the 35D is higher...
Monthly payment - Will be paying cash so even though there is a finance cost of some sort I choose to ignore it...
Fuel - Yup this will be a killer but I hope that the ride makes up for the extra cost?
Road tax and pollution - Dont know to be honest.
Annual servicing - Dont know will look it up tomorrow when BMW opens.
Depreciation is the biggest item and is really unknown since they seem to be pretty hard to sell here in Sweden but I think I can live with that. (at least that how if feels right now...)
Tires - As long as they dont wear them out faster than a regular X5 I think its ok.

Rez: Thats good news regarding the tires and maintenance. If I buy it I will get an extended warranty. I agree that repairs could be a major headache since the parts probably are really expensive.

Thanks for your input. Appreciate all the info that I can get.
