Oil Change Debauchery

First thing is first, my name is Christian and I am new to these forums!

Ok, so I am ready to get my first oil change on my X5M...just out of warranty, I called my BMW dealer and they quoted me $324.00 .... after reading the large oil debate (5W30 vs 10W60). I need to follow up with them as I was just calling for a ballpark price.

That seems a bit absurd to me, I am not a tech guy...I don't change my own oil, what would you pay for this?

~ $120 max, at a BMW oriented Indie...
It is not a complicated or lengthy DIY.

Hit GOOG and look up BMW repair Pittsburgh, PA; my guess is there a half a dozen plus shops in your area. From fading memory, X 'Ms' don't take that 10W60, but the standard 5W-30, or 0W-40 if you like, for cold winter starts in Pittsburgh.

PS: Welcome to an outstanding Forum, and most here don't mind a little debauchery.

The correct oil is 5W-30 not 10W-60. Car takes 10 liters of oil plus filter. My dealer charged me $150

Advertised at $162 at my local dealership, for the X5M. Interesting that that is slightly more than the X5 4.8, though the work should be pretty similar.

Make sure that you are getting the price just for the oil and filter change, and not for any expanded inspection routine that they are selling along with the oil and filter change (if you just need the oil and filter change).
