The X1 xDrive28i attains roughly 10l/100km in urban and roughly 7l/100km on mixed freeway driving, which just isn't good enough. And like I said, it's too small. I may test drive a top-spec Tiguan this weekend just for comparisons sake, although it too isn't currently available as a diesel. However, VW seems more committed to diesels than BMW. And really, I'm still leaning towards a Golf TDI although that doesn't really go off-road. |

Might I add emissions and economy aside. There's more to a diesel than those..
I mainly got diesel this time round cos I have been doing a lot of towing (long distance too) and diesel does that best, pulling 2000 + kilo loaded car trailer up hills & over taking people in the slow lane is awesome. haha The economy is just a big bonus and makes it a little more gentle on the wallet! Now I live 8 minutes drive from my office its no problem for me to buy a gas guzzler (read X5m) and ride a push bike to work (once it warms up)!

If you look at the BMWUSA Facebook page, you see their target audience.
If Woodcliff Lake gets their way, the X1 will be replacing the Subaru Outback as the pot-powered hippy "My kids have been vegan since conception" tree hugger hypocrite mobile. Pretty disappointing, since I found that the X1 xDrive23d was a damn good car in Germany. |

The X1 is cheaper than the 3 series wagon and unlike the 3 series is available with the turbo six in the US. It may also drive better since it is built on the E90 chassis rather than the F30.
