So I guess our consumption is really around 8.something l/100Km.

We've done a trip back to our home country, Portugal, last Christmas. 2500KM each way, at a maximum of 130-140Km/h, plus another 2500Km on small city trips for family visits around lisbon, and we did exactly 8.4 on those 7500KM.

Then back here in Germany we've done another 2000Km or something, at also around 8.4l/100Km, including mostly city (going shopping every 15 days), and some occasional trips around Düsseldorf (Nürgburg, Burg Eltz, etc.), where I do step on the foot (when not forbidden) up to around 190Km/h (above 180Km the noise gets uncomfortable).

A friend of mine with a 3-Series E91, also 2.0l Diesel, but the new 166HP, does an average of 7.4l, tough.

I also have the 2.0d and have averaged 39.2 miles a gallon over approx 80,000 miles in the last 2.5 years.

I find driving it more relaxing than my wifes Audi A4 on the moterway as it is so quiet.

About to have the 2nd front wheel bearing replaced under warrenty as there is a vibration, and also had a new set of alloy wheels done under warrety. Brake dust had pitted the surface, and the dealer agreed that this was notnormal. RESULT.

According to BMW UK the new 2.0D is 177 BHP with combined cycle consumption of 43.5 MPG. Uses 3rd generation common rail all aluminium diesel engine. Available to order now against Sep 2007 (MY 08) production.

First, as far as I understood, MPG in UK is different from MPG in US.

So 43.5 MPG UK is 36.2 MPG US, and 6.49L/100KM EU.

I doubt that engine, with the weight of the X3, could do less than 7.4L/100KM in real life (which becomes 31.8 for you US'ers and 38.2 for UK), but I'd like to stand corrected

Just give fuel consumption to me in l/100km. I understand it. . The Brits drive on the wrong side of the road and use their own silly measurement system.

I also have a 2.0d with 150hp and i'm planning an hp upgrade next winter: change the stock turbo for a GT2260V with a remapped ecu. This should give me reliable ~250hp for about 2000-3000€. Then let's see those 6 cyl as fast as mine with a consumption of 8-9L/100km. (the 3.0sd doesn't count )
