HELP with Possible X3 Purchase..

So we are on our Second X5 (E70 35d), and love BMW's interpretation of the SAV. We need to add another car to the stable and are considering a '16 or '17 X3 (likely 28i).

We have looked at a couple, and my wife likes how they drive. We looked at a 2016 28i M sport today with 85K miles on it. It was originally leased in GA, then sold as a CPO in VA at 38,000 miles..

It looked pretty clean overall, and seemed to drive well, except that the AC wasn't working, and it was 93 degrees.

It's at a third party dealer and they were planning to have the AC recharged, but hadn't done so yet. Not clear why it would need to be recharged unless there is a leak or a bad compressor or condenser. Electric fan kicked on with AC, so that's no it..

I also hooked the Foxwell up, and was surprised that it was unable to query the VPN from the DME. Tried entering it manually, and it didn't seem to like it either, so was only able to get minimal info.

Why would it be unable to read the VIN from the DME? I've hooked the Foxwell up to multiple different BMW's and never run into this previously. Is this a sign that the DME has been replaced or flashed with a different tune?

The Carfax report has the entry:

"Manufacturer Emissions recall issued - Recall #20E-A01:60 - REPROGRAM CONTROL UNITS (DME)"

This Appears to be an Emissions related update, not sure what if any ramifications that carries...

But I wouldn't think a factory flash would remove or mask the VIN?

Car fax doesn't have many other entries, so not likely a dealer maintained special..

Also the engine seems to shake/vibrate around quite a bit when viewed idling, but doesn't seem noticeable in the car. Normal for this Engine?

Anything else out of the ordinary I should be looking for, or worried about with this generation X3?

Seems like you made a good decision on that one! I would have walked away too!
