Connection error with EWS

Hi everyone,

I was resolving an airbag issue on the x today. Pulled down the headliner and disconnected all of the associated headliner electronics. I reseated the affected airbag, connected the 1.4 scanner and airbag cleared. That was great.

Battery was draining because of listening to radio etc so I had my trickle charger on....started up the car and it started talking German to me on the dash. Thought that was weird...maybe I accidentally clicked something on the 1.4 software...oh well, I thought I'd hook it back up and I get 'connection error with EWS' and then I also noticed I had no on board computer on the dash anymore.

The only real component that I disconnected was console where the SOS, Homelink and Moonroof controls are.

Any thoughts?

Happens a lot on clients cars ,when they try to start car with the charger connected!
Our charger Bmw dealer auto disconnects on cranking to avoid this.
I assume the car cranks over but doesn't start. You just need to sync EWS with DME.
Its a simple feature to do on Ediabas/ Inpa .Just sync and save .You should also have a error on EWS as a break in attempt as it detected an alien device!
After you sync and start the car, disconnect battery cables a.s touch cables for 30 mins or more to reset your modules and you will have everything showing again.

The car actually starts. Sounds like you're telling me to take it to dealer and/or indy with the right software

If it starts you don't have a EWS problem.

Sorry, your thread title "connection error with EWS" confused me and I missed you sayng the car started!Usually ,if you have EWS connecion error ,car wont start!
As already said by upallnight, since it starts ,you dont need to sync EWS.Just reset the modules by touching battery terminals ,as I explained before.

Pulling the fuses and let the cables touch for a bit solved my problem. Thanks for the help
