P0443

I've been getting the SES light intermittently for several months, caused by code P0443, which is for "Evaporative Emission System Purge Control Valve Circuit". So, I went ahead and replaced the purge control valve a week ago, while the light happened to be off. In the meantime, I had the air bag light reset (I forgot to disconnect the battery when I removed the passenger door air bag to replace a door lock actuator a couple of months ago). A couple of days ago, the SES light came back on, and the code is still reading P0443. So, I had Advance Auto clear the code.

Is this likely to fix it? Or is there something else in the circuit that could be triggering the code? I wouldn't think resetting the air bag light would be related to the SES code, but is there any chance it could be, since the two things happened at the same time? Thanks.

Wow, not one single response. I thought this was a common problem.

Anyway, a week after clearing the codes, it's back. So, I've replaced the gas cap and the purge control valve, and can't get rid of this pesky P0443 code. What should I try next? Is it likely to be an electrical issue, or a leak of some sort? Any clues would be appreciated. In the meantime, I'm going to research more about the root cause of this problem.

Look at this video by South Main Auto repair. Eric O gives a good explanation on finding a evap leak.
