Cool Rear window shade/screens worth it or not??

So today I was cruising my local wrecker, when I spotted a nice looking e53 in the lot, it had a set of rear door window screens/shades. I asked "How much??" and was told, $75 if i pull them. I passed for now, because I am not sure how often they would be utilized, and just how useful they actually are? any thoughts?? anyone else have them? my daughter and her friends are the usual occupants of the back seat.
My OCD screams that I should get this option, as yet another in the quest for the "fully optioned X5", but my wallet suggests otherwise!
So does anyone else have these window screens, and are they useful? I'm located in the pacific north west, so scorching summer heat isnt a big issue!?
On the otherhand, I did pick up a set of mint running boards for my X today! now I am trying to figure out whether or not to have them re-anodized in a darker color grey/black?? just to be different!
ahhhhh the fun of owning a BMW!
thanx all!

I like them and my children do too. Keep it cooler in the summer. I have them on all the time in summer. I also have the rear sides and back window too.

i have them, but they catch quite often when retracting onto the roller. i'm scared they'll break. but they are pretty cool when it gets hot.

I have the little quarter ones rolled out all of the time. Adds a little privacy to the back. The others are used occasionally. I usually use them when riding in the back of my parents audi.

We have them on our '01, since day one and we like them: a bit more sun reducing, more privacy, but most adults riding in back will open them, but not carefully...

Ours still work 14 yrs later, but they are fragile and often snapped open when one closes a rear door, as the the non OCD/non-owner puts their hands where the screens are.

Cool, but I suspect kids will beat on them, and they are just waiting to catch/snag or break. I have no idea how to replace them if mine did break.

Hmmmm, now I'm torn! I think I will be heading back to the wrecker with some $$ just to see what kind of deal I can wrangle! Our X is parked in the garage, so its usually quite protected from the sun. We drive in the Okanagan a fair bit, and the kids (and us adults) usually drive around with the windows open! (old school we had cars with no AC growing up! lol!!)
The screens on the one in the wrecker looked as though they were never used!! thanx for the advice all!!!

If you can get a good deal, get them. I don't think you'll regret it.

I recently retrofitted the rear shades on my X. No regrets. My wife loves them and my sons enjoys the shade. I actually swapped out my interior, all seats and door panels from black to Montana 2 tone black and charcoal. If you do get them I recommend you buy new hooks for the shades, I didn't reuse the old one. They are cheap to buy anyways.

I like them. But I wouldn't go to the trouble of retrofitting them... So my advice in that regard is useless

My preference is window tinting as it is robust and serves the same basic purpose (heat reduction, privacy).

...and in the end, you would probably get more than that on ebay if you don't fit them, and decided to sell them...
