davesx5 is on a distinguished road
With any car reaching 10 years old and 100k miles, you will need to do, or pay for repairs. If you can afford to pay for the repairs good for you, if you are a diy person good for you. Some people are neither. These are the people that should not work on cars. We have all heard the stupid questions and can't believe that they are working on a car. Now the op needs to decide for himself what he can or can't do. My son leases a new car every 3 years because he can not make his own repairs.
