Jay, you have a link to the grilles you mention?
I have a set of the smoked chrome in my garage. PM me if you're interested.

Plasti-dip it. Easy to do and will stick

I'll give this a shot. Been meaning to try the stuff anyway. Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks. I need to update it. Will upload pictures and get out the receipt binder. Hopefully the kiddos (and wife ) will give me some time to work on it. I'll try to add some thoughts on the ups and downs of e53 ownership, but to sum it up: I don't think I'll be selling my 4.8is anytime soon.

Man I am sorry that I missed this request from you. Below is the link on Ebay where the item was listed that I purchased.

^Thanks, I ended up plastidipping them and am fairly pleased with the results. Would prefer gloss black to match the sport trim but I'll take what it looks like now over the M6 style front grilles.

Let me try and get a quick update to this done while my son is taking a nap... *fingers crossed*

January 1 - 22, 2017

- Paid off the X5! That's the best mod of all if you ask me.

- Complete refresh of driveshafts and components. This turned out to be quite the ordeal which can be read about here. If you are doing a DS refresh and are having issues, maybe something in there can help you as I had all kinds of issues with removal. That's why it was a 2-3 week affair. All of this work cured a driveline "clink" metallic noise upon acceleration that I had since purchase of the vehicle. Well worth it IMO. Splines, fasteners, etc were corrosion treated, greased, and anti seized as necessary.

- Installed new rear CSB for DS. (26121229726) $46.67

- Installed new rear guibo/flex disk for rear DS. (26111229360) $43.95

- Installed new front DS guibo/flex disk. (26117503159) $42.99

- Installed new rear DS centering sleeve. (26117526806) $32.39

- New bolt to replace a guibo bolt frozen that I had to cut off. (26117635643) $5.25

- Oil change w/ Mann filter, Lucas oil treatment, 8qts 5w40 full synth

- Replaced CCV's on the valve covers. (1127547058 x2) $51.98

- Replaced charcoal cabin filter. (64312218428) $20.99

January 25, 2017

- Installed ebay AC Schnitzer replica spoiler from Ebay using 3M tape. $123

February 17, 2017

- Small addition. Added LED rear license plate lights from SiruisLED on Amazon. They are bright and so far have lasted well. $10.95

April 23, 2017

- Added rear LED signal bulbs. I've had these for a long time from another vehicle so can't link to them, but they are bright and look good. $0.00

May 3, 2017

- Finally got around to ditching the M6 style grilles in favor of plasti-dipped OEM's. Thanks for the suggestion BCredliner. Would prefer if they were gloss black, but this is the best option available at present.

May 23, 2017

- More LED lighting. Installed LED front signals from SiriusLED. Very bright and have been very happy with them. $29.99

May 24, 2017

- Completed the front suspension refresh. Everything is now new (and clunk free). Last thing to replace would be the strut mounts but I don't have any noise and will wait until I have an air bag problem or something that needs addressing to replace those.

- Installed new Meyle HD Sway bar end links. $53.99

- Installed new lower control arms. (31126760275 & 31126460276) $120.66

- Got an alignment at Firestone. Will scan and post the results later. They couldn't get the front camber into spec. Not sure why, maybe the strut mounts? Have lifetime so it was $0.00

June 8, 2017

- Final addition to the LED signal lighting. Installed LED fender lenses. These are the same available from Bimmian but for about half the price from China. Thoughts: the lenses and LEDs are good quality, but the mounting mechanism is terrible and pops off if you look at it funny. I modded them to use the OEM lens metal retainer clips and they are perfect now. You can get them here. $29.99

June 17, 2017

- Had to reinstall the ACS replica spoiler due to the 3M tape failing. I ordered BMW's K1 adhesive that they use for installing carbon body panels and such. This stuff is awesome so long as you NEVER want to remove whatever you are using it on. As a side bonus it eliminates that "tape gap" that you get due to the tapes thickness. I will use this exclusively over tape from now on. Pricey stuff though. $42.00

That's it for now gentlemen. Truck hit 113200 miles yesterday and is driving well for now. I still have a cooling system refresh ahead of me in the near future (have parts here already) and will also be looking to get the VSS done this year as soon as the wife's X3 sells.

Also nearing 2 years of ownership of the X so am thinking I'll make a thoughts and overview thread regarding how it's treated me and the family. We'll see what time allows.

NICE!!

i recently also did the lower control arms while installing coil overs but got jipped by the shop that put them in. they ended up taxing me $500 just for the parts an labor of the control arms alone. i didn't want to start an argument so i just paid it.

Beautiful X5!

I just picked up a 2004 4.4i also in Imola but with all of the 4.8is goodies such as maxed out options and the 4-corner air suspension. As close as I'm gonna get to the 4.8!

What kind of MPG are you averaging? Also, the new oem grills look sooo much better!
