Use inpa it takes 2 seconds to connect and you can do it on the fly, plus lets you adjust smaller increments.. F5 less lift, F6 more and F7 saves. It shows you a bar graph of where your lift is each time you adjust.

GT1/DIS only allows adjust to 0.3mm or 0.8mm. I'm not sure I got INPA actually working. I'll try to get it talking to the X5. My indy has his handheld that allows incremental adjustment by 0.1mm.

So, I tried my INPA. Seemed to work for absolutely everything EXCEPT the VVT settings. On Bank 1 and 2 I get a "no requirement for stop learning" and "read out error memory!" message. I see the pretty bar chart, value shows 0.000mm and I can press F5 and F6 but without any change. Ugh.
This is a GT1 v4.4 build. I do have a DIS 5.7 laptop that works with my 535 but never has worked with the X5. I'll try the INPA on that laptop tomorrow.

Was your car at operating temp? It wont work unless oil temp is up and coolant temp.
Something you can try is when cars cold turn key to the position before it cranks and let it sit there for 2-3min i believe it will recheck the vvt settings, or reset them in dis, then try with inpa.

Ahahaha - if I go back to my post #17 where I state the temps required to make the change (>80C), you'd think I would have clued in the same was needed for INPA. Long day

I had the standard slight misfire on cold start and it was making some other noise too, I changed the CCV and cleaned all the tubes, there was gunk every where, and I started to use Castrol titanium and changed the oil every 4k miles and it cleared right up, valves are quiet and burns very little oil if any at all.

So last night I was fiddling with INPA and found the function where you can adjust .1 at a time.
Even though I set the value to .8 I was still getting some rough running on the next two mornings on a first start One time it was 42 degrees the other time it was 34 degrees. It was enough to turn the CEL back on.... I was playing around with INPA last night and observing the smooth running values at different valve lift settings. Cylinder #4 will give me values of apx 1.5 (don't recall if negative or positive) when all the other cylinders are .5 or less Some observations. If I increase the lift closer to .8 the value for this odd-ball cylinder will reduce to closer to .5 and be more like all the others. For giggles I reduced the lift from .8 to closer to .5 I started the car this morning at 10 degrees and didn't get the same level of roughness as the previous mornings. It was a bit "cold" sounding but it wasn't throwing a fit and flashing the CEL. It seems random and I cannot find a good pattern of what makes it happen. Hmmmmm Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Regarding the suggestion of a
possible fuel pump or fuel filter issue. I would understand this better if I was having stumbling or missing at highway speeds where fuel consumption is more rapid - but I'd think idle fuel consumption would be less than normal "driving" operations. That said I have not investigated my fuel pump or fuel filter situation - but do have a filter on-hand which I've been sitting on for the last 9 months or so.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did a filter and it didn't fix this idle/cold start issue.
I firmly believe it's levers. I like how you're thinking though. With GT1 or DIS, I only had 0.3mm and 0.8mm. With INPA now working, I was going to attempt various settings and watch the values or look for a pattern. Weather is lumpy now, so I want it consistently cold before diving into the settings again. Keep posting any findings and I'll do the same.

Okay. Started the car at 1 degree this evening after it sat around for a good 8 hours. Didn't miss a beat?!
