Putting in a new rebuilt engine on a 2005 4.8is and while we're at it?

Hey there looking at all possibilities. Any suggestions on modifications to increase sound and performance a bit? Meaning ECU tuning, X pipe, Headers etc.? We already have a new Remus exhaust ready to go.

But before my guys put in the new engine just thinking about tinkering with a few more things. Figure i'm in this thing now for the long-haul. After all though I only paid $9200 for it in great shape on the surface, the engine blew (I already posted about that!). So as long as were putting in a new engine I figured maybe will add more on if anybody has any good suggestions. Maybe a new air intake? Have not asked the guys yet I think they said it's pretty limited as to what's available.

As it's already top of the line E53, not much you can bolt-on to improve the performance. Engine and transmission software, exhaust and CAI are pretty much all.

Can't suggest anything as far as tuning, but if I were you I would definitely replace the valve stem seals, upper timing covers, and valve covers, alternator bracket seal while the engine is out, its much easier to do it now than when its in the truck.

Yes good here on all that. In the works shortly. Thanks for the reminder though forgot about the alternator bracket seal.

Thinking about the transmission too. I may be in this for $20K before it's all done!

Lucky the interior and exterior are in really good shape! Mainly because this is a Tennessee/Georgia (inland) X5. I will re-dye the seats too only because it is so easy and I can do that at least!

Yes Definitely have the valve stem seals done at this juncture while the engine has not been installed in the vehicle. This will save you alot of time and head aches.

I think VAC can improve the flow in the heads.

I'd try to hunt down some Dinan parts.

Okay give us an update on the new engine and repair? Is the X5 up and running in good shape again?

Good time to put in new engine/trans mounts, and check the driveshaft flex discs too.

How about a cooling system overhaul while you are at it?

Front axle boots would be easy to pull and RR with the engine out too, along with front suspension work.

You could threadlock and tighten the wiper linkage nuts while the cowl cover is off.

Good opportunity to clean up the engine bay also!
