Pricy but complete

2000 2006 BMW x5 E53 Rear Bumper Receiver Trailer Hitch 4 6IS 4 8IS 4 4i 3 0i | eBay

I paid $550 shipped for mine last year from a dismantler in the Sacramento, CA area. But from what I can tell not only are these becoming harder to find, their prices keep going up!!!

@bhennrich ... seems cheaper to re-register the Chevy Tahoe. Thanks for the link.

It also seems to be a large kit. I was thinking just an extra crosspiece that could be made by our welder.

Thanks for the link! I would have bought that one if it wasn't 1000CAD for the hitch plus 1200CAD shipping. CRAZY!

*edit* I didn't read enough, Shipping inside USA $275, guess I will find a friend to ship it to...

That Dude Murad has prices on all his parts that appear to be a rip-off. Hate to say it but someone on this board is going to end up buying that hitch since they want it so bad. I anticipate that it will not be there on ebay for more than a couple of days.

The "OEM" tow bar here in NZ is made buy a local company - looks like they still offer the E53 unit.

BMW X5 Sports Activity Vehicle E53 model - Best Bars Ltd

I have one of these on my car. The great thing about these is once you removed the tongue (R clip and 19mm pin) the cover can be clipped back into the bumper for a clean tail.

Freight costs might be a bit scary...

Thanks for the link, I wonder how much these cost to buy/ship! I'm definitely interested!

I would want to see what their hitch looks like on the X5 before purchashing. On their website there are no images and nothing to evaluate the execution of the product. Do you have the hitch on your X5? Perhaps you can take some detailed shots and share with the group in search of this component.

Kinda doubt it if they were the "OEM" manufacturer for the towbar. Westfalia was the OEM manufacturer for the X5 E53 towbar.

"OEM" is sometimes different in different countries - especially where local regulations apply. My tow bar was supplied by BMW NZ and fitted to the vehicle from new, by BMW NZ (at least, by the local dealer anyway).

Pictures coming...

I wasn't seriously suggesting that someone state-side buys a 'bar from NZ but I guess if they are that hard to find...
