Update on this one.

She has clocked up around 50k miles since I replaced the gear and motor so for $135 and a few minutes to install it was well worth it. Still going strong.

Thanks for the update - really appreciate it! My old actuator is still working after rotating the gear 180*...so this is a really good option when my gear gives up!

Did you have to get the T-case to re-adapt to the new actuator as some other posts indicated was required for a new actuator? Thanks again.

I cant remember if I had to do anything to it or not. I remember changing it in the carport without jacking it up or anything and how easy it was. But I dont remember if any coding was needed. Let me see if I did a howto or made notes about it.

I cant find any notes so I guess it just worked. I do remember using the scan tool to do a test and it resetting the light. I dont remember actually coding it.

Ok after reading the tech manual I remember what I had to do

There is a resistor on the old motor and I moved it to the new motor and that is all thats required. No coding if you move the resistor over.

Heres the part from the manual covering it.

Quote:
Coding Resistor
Because of mechanical tolerances in produc-
tion, the characteristic curve of the multi-disc
clutch locking torque varies slightly.
Once the actual locking torque has been mea-
sured on the clutch test bench, a resistor is
attached to the servomotor; the resistor's value
is a reference to the locking torque characteris-
tic.
Each time the engine is started, the transfer
case control unit measures the resistance
value once and the optimum program map for
the transfer case fitted is selected.

Thanks for digging this up.

Is the resistor soldered on the motor? I need to look for pictures to see how the resistor is attached to the motor. Thanks again for the info!

Awesome! That looks simple to swap over
The part now only cost $80 on Amazon! However, the pictures on Amazon doesn't show or come with the resistor?

You want the resistor that came on your car. Thats the secret. Dont use the resistor that is on the motor when you buy it.

The resistor is for the calibration of the clutch in the transfer case not for the actuator motor. They include the resistor in case your resistor is bad or missing.
