Forum Rant

I belong to a few different automotive forums and there seems to be a commonality between most all of them. People will start a post asking looking for a solution for a specific issue and never follow up with what the solution is.

Pretty much as soon as they find the fix they move on not bothering to update their post.

PLEASE take the time to post follow up to what you find as a solution.

End Rant.

Welcome to life. 68% takers, the rest give away time, knowledge, and sweat way too often to those who expect this effort for free.

Meanwhile just smile and move on.

Careful, that's what cost Romney the 2012 election. Liberals dont like to hear the truth.

Yeah I know, I am hoping it will help remind a few people at least. It gets annoying searching the forums finding plenty of post on what you are looking for with no solution because no update for years.

Sometimes I see if the member is still active and ask them to update their post.

Its a good point, I always try to add any information or if I find something useful I like to add my thanks or any issues I had with the project. Truth is, I read about 50x more than I write... I learn so much from sites like these that its hard to comment/post on everything without being 'That guy' that writes pointless posts. That said, if I have a specific problem and someone gives me some information/help or advice, I am always very courteous about it. Perhaps thats just because I am British tho.

I think it's because you had good parenting. No thank you mom.

Yes I try to do the same thing, thank those who wrote a post I find helpful. Not all Americans are rude bastards.

Since we are chewing on posters, I would like to add a thought on those who post "I have this XXX problem" without even looking at what has just been posted in the last few days, must less using the "SEARCH" feature to find common issues like Oil Separator failures (CCVC, PVC), how to change sensors, brakes, door carriers (Example: "My door handle is sticking out and not working!"), cooling issues, HVAC issues (welcome to summer time), etc.

Just take a few seconds and look on the site. You are NOT the first one who has had this issue (Insert your problem) in the last 10 years, trust us. I have found a ton of past knowledge posting. Like: "What bolts are needed for that big metal plate between the frame rails holding the sway bar brackets." "When to do services?" etc.

Thanks to all who racked up the mileage and posted their findings and solutions!

...since we're piling on...PLEASE remember to give your model/model year/build date if you've chosen NOT to create a signature that includes that information. And if you have an audio question...PLEASE identify which set-up you have....nav monitor or MID.

I can't count how many threads have asked questions about their "radio" or "engine"...but don't have any info as to which engine they have or which audio set-up they have.

/rant off

You will notice I dont have a lot of post counts but in the last year I have dont a LOT of work to my daughters X5, Basic tune up, trouble shooting coolant leak (expansion tank) transmission limp mode, (replaced modules) replaced rear frame mount bushings, replaced the instrument cluster and now rebuilding the transfer case. I'm sure Im leaving out a few things.

I do a LOT of searching. I also appreciate all the post from people who have done the work before me and posted procedures as well as videos. Thanks again.
