What other items would you suggest replacing at this point? Last time all fluids were changed was 2012 at 60k along with valve cover gaskets. In terms of faults I only have a faulty coolant level sensor and telescopic steering inoperable everything else works so far.
Any recommendations as to a reputable shop in NYC area? Thanks in advance for your input. I wish I could figure out how to upload pics.
If "all" fluids were changed in 2012, and BMW products were used, then the only thing I would change in addition to engine oil would be the brake fluid. Your coolant, TC fluid and differential fluid should be fine.

As for the transmission, I am of the school of thought of leave it alone. I have 306,300 miles on my original fluid and it works fine - but I qualify that by saying I have the 3.0 engine.

2002 X5 3.0 306,300 miles
2014 428i 20,200 miles

2004 325i sold at 123,600 miles
2001 325i sold at 66,000 miles

Noises are the first sign. Mine was so ever slight almost like a steering pump whine/whir. Since I had leaks at the front engine timing covers it was logical to check the guides. I had 102K on the car at the time. Replaced all the guides, tensioners, and timing chain. All good now.

More than likely the trans fluid was not changed. I would change it but would only use the ZF lifeguard 5 fluid that came in that transmission.

I appreciate your input. And I don't believe transmission been flushed at any point. I'll def ask my guy to check guides. Engine runs very smooth no noises whatsoever. I did notice that two front shocks are different so probably will need to address that. What's the consensus here on that matter oem or aftermarket?

Everyone has their own take on shock and suspension set-up. I decided to accent my 4.6is just a bit by lowering the front 1.5 inches with the H&R sport spring set up in the front. Since I was in there I decided to replace the dampers with OE Sachs. The rear of the vehicle was adjusted using adjustable lowering links since the rear has air springs/bags. The adjustable lowering links came in the set with the H&R spring set. I have what I consider is the perfect drive/ride height.

Thanks. I did get it on the lift the other day and it's free of any rust with many factory stickers still visible.

So I decided to go with OE for front struts. They are almost the same as aftermarket in price and I personally feel putting non BMW parts on a BMW will change its driving characteristics.

So I ended up replacing all gaskets as left side was leaking. New spark plugs, new expansion tank, new brake pads, new front shocks and I can't wait for al the work to be done so I can finally drive this beast.

Nice looking X!

Do you know if they changed the transfer case fluid and the fluid in both differentials? As for the transmission fluid change, there are two schools of thought on this and it has been discussed ad nauseum. You can use the search function to read up on that and there are a few great DIY's for changing all of these. Bav Auto has a good DIY on the ATF change too. I don't DIY anything I'm not comfortable with, but these are all pretty straightforward. I took mine to a DIY garage that you can rent a bay with a lift for $25/hour. NYC probably has some of these too. I have plenty of tools, but the place I go to also has all of the tools you would ever need too.
