2006 4.4 Brake Problem

I've been chasing a problem with my brakes for a couple days now. When I am stopped and in park and press the brake pedal, the pedal comes up and becomes very hard to press. This comes with increased difficulty stopping at low speeds. At normal speed the brakes are ok.

Here's what I did. I check the check valve and it seemed to bleed. I just replaced both vacuum lines from the pump to the booster. The new lines have 2 check valves. One at the booster and one inline. This did not fix the problem.

I noticed a whooshing sound when I press the pedal in park. Is this pointing to a booster problem? I read somewhere the was a recall for boosters on cars with the n62. Has anyone had this recall successfully preformed on their x5? I know the x5 was excluded.

Let me know what you guys think. Thanks in advance!

Does sound like a vacuum problem to me too. I'm an M62 guy so don't have any specific suggestions.

is your vacuum pump working? it's located on the front of the engine on the passenger engine bank.

Hard brake pedal is caused by either a bad vacuum pump or brake booster. The recall was for the vacuum pump. The brake booster was not included. My guess is that the vacuum pump was replaced and the booster is now dying.

Perhaps a bad diaphragm in the booster.
