This beast needs to be pampered like the other garage queens! You leave this poor 4.8iS out in the cold

I am going to order it as I see myself doing a lot of the lines on a few members cars in the future. Thanks for the offer. Need to start practicing my skills on making mushroom end tips!
What fittings did you use? Old one or new? If new where/what/how?

3/16" Tube Archives - AGS Company AGS Company Unions Archives - AGS Company AGS Company I think the fittings are 10mm and 12mm ISO flare, which looks like a British bubble flare with a flat back. I bought a bag of 10ea, as I didn't know how much I'd be replacing. I also bought this tube straightener from this company: https://www.motorsport-tools.com/kwi...se-kps001.html The hot-rod guys uncoil the tube by forcing it into the bottom of the "V" made from a pair of 2x4s. Never tried that.

My 2006 X5 3.0i with 130K miles has corrosion similar to the Pelican DIY below:
https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart..._Repairing.htm Question re expanding rivets (about 6 of them) for the plastic trim cover that shields the brake lines. I looked all over realoem but could not confirm it. I am talking about the expanding rivets for this Part #1 (the shield) in the link below: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_3944 I am thinking PN is 51118174185 (I need about qty= 6-10), can someone confirm for me it is the correct PN?

Just went to local BMW dealer with an old plastic rivet and compared
against new part at dealer. The PN for the plastic rivet I posted above is correct. You need about 6 of them. I bought 10. Online is $0.35/each (genuine). Local dealer wants $0.75/each. For something like this, I bought it locally b/c if you factor in shipping cost, it comes out to the same.

Old thread, refresher~~~
just had my rear pass side brake line fail in that same location under the driver footwell. Will be cutting affected section and making a tube insert with appropriate fittings. At same time will need to Vacuum Booster as this has failed and the brake pedal was getting stiff at idle engine speeds and low speed vehicle movements. My tools got rusty from non-use because i've been driving Japanese cars the last 10yrs. The joys of German vehicle ownership

Doing this project now. CN90 DIY is excellent...
I am cutting out rusted sections and replacing with Ni-Copp tubing. I need to make good bubble flares on both Ni-Copp and the steel lines still in X5. I tried a new, in-line bubble flaring tool - Cal-Van part# 155...for about $30...good idea, poor execution. It is small and is ideal for in-line work, but unfortunately it is not robust enough for making bubble flares in (non-stainless) steel. It won't grip the tubing with enough clamping force to withstand the bubble formation. I am returning it. I ended up borrowing a mid-level MasterCool bubble flaring tool. Haven't tested any connections yet..still working on it. |
