I've done this on my E39.

Never got the oil and LED working.....sold the car before someone in the forums found a way to enable these two.

I've used PA soft and this guide by BMWPlanetDude.

See my signature for Bianca.

Already verified this ages ago on an e39
Thanks...will have to add this info to my "mental rolodex".
{a properly coded HIGH cluster can be swapped into an original LOW cluster set-up...the only issues will be...if the LOW MID is still retained...it will not access the extended OBC features/functions}

@QSilver: thanks
Just a little remark: there is no "real" LOW MID... They are all the same - only if the car is equiped with LOW BC cluster and MID the "BC" button on the MID is missing (with some hacking you will be able to add one, but thats another story ). HIGH cluster and standard non MID radio ("Reverse RDS") will also work without problems

Looks like a great guide. How did you change the mileage? My cluster comes today. I'll probably have to send it to blackknight530i to have the EEPROM chip removed. Does the chip have to be recoded or can you just buy a new chip on eBay and put it in? I'll do a writeup in this thread once I figure it out.

My PA-Soft version was able to code the VIN....best to send it to Paul....he can code the LED and oil as well.

You can brick the DME/EWS/IKE....and get starting issues if not correctly done.

Already did it. Everything works except for the mileage and the warm up lights. Those won't work without modification. I'll send it to Paul to correct the mileage. Expect a write up shortly.

I see everyone asking about 4.6 or 4.8 to 4.4 and 3.0 swap/retrofit.

I haven't found a single thread of someone asking about 4.4 to 3.0 retrofit. Are the same procedures required or is it simpler?
