Yes and you can put tons of miles on those vehicles with very little worry. A BMW independent repair shop in Fort worth uses a couple of these vehicles as their customer loaner cars. All of them have over 190K and are tight as a drum. The key always is the maintenance.

As BMWs go I feel the e38 is one of the more reliable setups even with a mediocre maintenance history. There are a million small things to deal with on them, but both of mine have been rock-solid reliability with spotty histories. Compared to the X they're bulletproof.
