Northeast - Who's changing to Snow

I gotta say, the last 3-4 years, it's been mild enough that I have not switched to snows. Traditionally, I've always followed the following guidelines

- Winter Prep Car *detailwise* by 2nd week of November
- Snow tar swaps on all cars on post T-Day - Friday-Weekend

Maybe I jinxed it but I'm thinking about resuming the tradition and snows it goes. It's just not fun when it's warm and the gummy bears are on

I just dropped it off this morning to swap out to my winter set up. I've been watching the weather and these cold temps don't play nice with summer rubber.

I have been running staggered 20's year round since I got the X (with "no season" Toyo tires) - never had snow tars - sure I'm not going through a blizzard up the Adirondacks with it but its worked fine.

Got my winter prep dialed in this weekend, clayed a month ago so I just did H2 on the wheels, dressed tires/wells with Adams VRT, engine bay detail and dress/wipedown of under hood of dirt, dressed engine bay rubber and door jamb seals, and 2 coats of Reload on the paint and glass. Just got to finish polishing my 4.8iS exhaust tips and a quick coat of dressing on the trim and I should be gtg for winter

Might as well do the PSA while I'm at it.....

For those that don't check your tire pressures, please do so if you live in a area that's get's the seasonal change.

switched over to Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow a couple of weeks ago. My staggered 20's are only good at 40 degree and above.

I remember last Thanksgiving being chased out of NJ by a snow storm
that I finally lost somewhere around New Haven CT on the way back to RI

And this year they are calling for snow on the way to NJ

Anyone know if style 130s will fit over 4.6 brakes? I know BMW recommends style 99 or something for 4.6iS. I'd definitely like to add a dedicated snow wheel/tire to the X5, though maybe not this year.

130's are 17" so I think you will need to keep looking as the 4.6 needs at least 18's

Haven't done it yet...but usually mount the dedicated winter tires (18" Michelin X-Ice xi2) sometime between Thanksgiving and New Years. Last year...it was warm enough to get by until the last day of the year.

Since we got a good snow flurry last Saturday...looks like the snows might have to go on before Xmas.

BTW, I like them not just for snow...but anytime the temps remain below 45° F...it can be dry, rain, sleet, or snow...the Michelins just perform better than my 20" Nitto Motivos.

Snow? That is why people move into the south to get away from that stuff. We usually get 2-5 hits that last 2-3 days then its gone. The traffic is worse than the stuff on the street here. If it is all ice, I choose to telework that day. Seen one too many hits in that stuff.
