Replacement Nav Screen

Hey Everyone - I have a 2005 E53 w/ 83k. As has happened to many of you and mine also, my nav screen is pixeled and turns green. I had the screen changed once before but this "new screen" is really shot - more so than the original nav screen I got rid of.

Anyway, I looked but didn't come up with a nav screen vendor. I know a lot of you have installed the Dynavin/Eonon headunits but I'm thinking I'd just replace my screen and just move on from there.

If anyone can recommend a vendor, I'd really appreciate it and I do have the Sharp model number for my original screen.

Thanks to all who answer!

The screen that you had replaced before was it a genuine sharp screen?

Unfortunately, I found this post in another thread and since the guy lived relatively close to my house, I used his service. I do not know what brand screen he used because after he removes the unit, goes into his house, replaces the screen and reinstalls the unit. You don't know what brand he uses except he "tells" you it original.

My "new" screen started to pixel 7 months after this guy installed it. I let him know what happened and on the phone he indicated he was going to "warranty" it. When I got to his house, he wanted to charge me another $250 for a screen plus install. You can imagine what I told him to do with his screen.

As such, I'm in the market for a new screen if anyone can direct me.

Thanks

I found this post by "M5 Jon" in another forum... I am going to give this a shot as the price is right and after speaking with him I had a good feeling he knew what the issue was and had done this many times before. It also worked out well for "M5 Jon" and other person from the thread that used him:

So the display on my nav went black a while back. Everything works, just the display is not lit up. Not wanting to drop $600 on a new nav display head unit I found an alternate solution. Jimmy Chen in New Jersey will do repairs for a fraction of the cost. Jimmy posts repair services as auctions on eBAY for BMW and Mercedes. I called Jimmy and talked w/him about the problem with my display. He said it could be repaired for $180 and to a mail a check for the amount and the unit to him.

Finding only limited posts/comments about him, and the fact that there is no physical business I was a bit suspicious. I searched a bit more and found some positive comments/threads on the web and decided to go for it. I mailed my display to Jimmy, and about a week half later (I am in California) I got it back.

His info:
Jimmy Chen
Alpine Electronics Repair

email: [email protected]

I will report back after I fix my system...

So Jimmy is the guy who replaced the screen?
I bought the Sharp screen on Amazon and replace it myself. Not too hard to do.

Yes, Jimmy is the person I went to to get the original nav screen replaced. He does the work in his driveway. He removes the nav unit in his driveway, goes into his house to replace the screen so you never know what "brand" he uses and comes back out to reinstall the nav unit. He does give back the "old" screen, which I still have. But like I said, my replaced screen started to pixel in like 3 different spots in about 7 months and he wouldn't do anything about it.

Now, the replacement screen is so bad, even the original wasn't this bad, that it really needs to be replaced or I need to get a new unit.

To be fair, I replaced my original screen about 10 months ago with a Sharp unit I bought on Amazon & it too has several bad spots already.

I had the issue of the screen randomly turning green and i was able to resolve it by disassembling the unit, cleaning the screen's ribbon cable and socket connections on both sides. I also added a small heavy-weight piece of paper to act as a shim to create better contact pressure on the cable connections. It has been good for about 4 years now.

I have to replace mine too. Someone thought it was a touch screen. Nice info for the replacement.
