Yep. I would offer to send this thing to you, but you've already got some custom work there. I will install again in my mother in law's '01 and see how it sounds this time. From there, I am raising an eyebrow in RB's general direction. After all, this kind of upgrade bang for buck is right in his wheelhouse.

No worries Prop, I'm good with my factory DSP unit for now. If and when the mood strikes me, and I digest the economic hits of the speaker and HU upgrades, I'll pull the trigger on changing out the factory 6" units.

Good on you for identifying this potential swap.

I do like upgrade bang for buck - trying to keep my upgrade queue down as much as possible lately though - after 25k spent in the past year having my dog beat cancer twice - it's more about free time at this point - the way I work, I won't get till these front door components till Memorial Day lol

Are you looking to donate as a donor set and then do a new one and hone your install techniques? - or to test in someone else's X to see if it doesn't rattle?

SemcoMike- mild amp tune you mentioned, did you tweak the factory DSP amp?

Hi RB,

I do not have factory DSP. I have retrofitted a DSP sub into my right rear cavity using all factory mounting points and hardware.

I am driving this DSP sub with an external amplifier and gave those settings on the amp a little tweaking.

Well.. not just the rattle. Really the sound (sans rattle of course). Like ya throw these in and you get BSW-esque performance for $100. Kinda tough to beat that. I'm not trying to start a bizness by any means, but I will admit that this has been fun.

It's been fun enough to offer to help someone who doesn't own a soldering gun or an inclination of tin snips and silicon. The bits and freight would probably cost me ab $100, so if somebody wants to try, I'll donate my time and some silicone to see what it's like. But as much as I would like to throw some actual cash in the direction of my friends, I'm not that kinda rich yet.

And if I keep the E53s on the road for another 7 years, I likely will not ever be.

RB Thanks for clarifying the rear mid range drivers. I'll be getting a set of the Peerless drivers for the rear to complete my upgrade.

I can't WAIT to hear how you like them. Since you are *way* more inclined, educated, experienced, and all o that goodness in this world than me, if you like it- and will take the trouble to explain why so I can decide if our whys align- if you like it, I am nearly almost certainly in.

GIVE! When you do it!

How ab now?

Now?

Glad to add a little contribution to our team member experiment

I'm going to get a better ruler measurement tonight for you (those Peerless drivers are out of stock anyway for the next few days) - I want to double check and triple check the factory driver diameter in mm, as well as the opening on the factory speaker grille/housing -

These actually might be a bit easier fit if the round Peerless drivers are just a couple mm too large (and if you don't want to dremel a bit off the outer ring of the driver) - the only differences I notice are the "squared" ones I linked below are 7w RMS while the 2" round drivers are 20w RMS, same sensitivity and same max power rating? I don't believe the .25" extra depth on the round Peerless drivers should make a difference, but these "squared" drivers are a couple mm shallower so closer to factory dimensions

A Harbor Freight digital caliper at about $15 should do that job nicely
