I never use the rear wiper/washer to clean the window, don't want to risk scratching it, not enough fluid comes out even when it is in tip top shape. I don't even use the wiper when it rains, just let Rain-x do the work. It doesn't clear much of the glass anyway.

I use mine to keep it clean more than free of rain. My rear window goes from pristine to filthy in the time it takes to put away the glass cleaner.

when the blade is not touching at the top - spray that fat spring and surrounding parts with penetrating or lubricating oil. When you don't use it enough it gets too comfortable in its parked position and doesn't conform to the window.

Question to those that the rear wiper are not working... is your washer working? On my 3.0 X5 it's 2001... the washer or the wiper don't work. I do not know if they work together.

Thanks

Yes, I am about 90% sure that the rear washer motor gets activated by the same driver chip as the wipers on a circuit board in the rear wiper motor itself.

OK, I confirmed it for you, diagram ELE-392 in the Bentley manual. You should get one.

I cut 1/2 inch off the top of my wiper to get it to stop hitting the brake light and causing this skip. Also need the right springiness of wiper to follow the curve of the window.

On an old wiper arm you can usually get some more spring pressure by putting a stick between the spring and wiper arm (on the order of pencil thickness or a small metal rod like 3mm. Pull the spring out of the arm, put the rod across the arm instantly double the spring force without replacing the arm.

Yes

Yes they are one in the same. And I am 100% sure. The necessary chip on circuit board is known to burn out. I posted something a while ago about mine with pictures. Just get another whole assy and replace it. Very easy to do. Go on Ebay and find one.
