Additional ambient lighting + wiring

Hi everyone,
I really want to add some additional interior lighting to the back of my X5 following my LED upgrades to the standard lights. When driving at night with both kids in the back, I like to have a little extra visibility of what they're up to without the need to have the ceiling dome lights turned on, so am looking at installing some footwell LED units, probably under the front seats.
I've found plenty of options on ebay, nearly all of which are designed to plug into the cigarette lighter socket - not necessarily a problem, but not really what I want. Ideally, I'd like to hook into the headlight wiring so that the new units only come on when I've got my headlights on.
I'm pretty handy, but haven't dabbled with auto wiring before. I'm assuming that this is possible (most things are if you know what you're doing, after all)...but is it easy/sensible, and what potential pitfalls should I be aware of? Is is something I can realistically tackle as a competent DIY'er, or should I enlist an auto electrician to help me out? And basically, how do I do it?

All guidance and advice is welcome. Thanks in advance.
Andy

I too was looking at this having just converted to the E70

I found Osram Ledambient
It's an expense kit, though seems wireless once charged
The reviews are interesting though the idea does seem good!

Several installation links on you tube https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8_ku60vSY7o
