Used X5 prices are shocking!

I've been dreaming about another vehicle to replace the X5 I drive... I hadn't realized that the prices have tanked and these are going for the same prices as E46s of the same vintage! I've even seen a few with nice bodies. I don't care much about the mechanicals, since some X5's are worth more in parts than as a whole.

See this example: https://newjersey.craigslist.org/cto/6029471923.html

If I was in a better position, I'd surely buy it. An aero kit has to be able to fetch at least $800. The rest of it can easily get you the last $200.

Yeah,I bought one for myself for $750 CAD,it had sweet 87s on it and some other nice option that mine doesn't have, like reclining rear bench,PDC,Navigation,CD Charger and Sub.Same tan interior,so it made a lot of sense to me.

I'm not sure that a ginormous POS like that is indicative of the resale value on all E53's as the thread title would steer us. Any car will have examples that have been beat to sh!t and slammed with sh!tty parts. I don't even want to know why the current owner drives a car that needs air fresheners a foot from his crotch.

Like we used to say ab other things in younger days... I wouldn't fnck that thing with YOUR d!ck. Sorry if anyone finds that vulgar. That E53 is a crying shame on it's last owner before the crusher. It's a good thing the web doesn't come with smells.

Yeah that X5 is a junk car. Its not a good measure of an X5's worth. It will need plenty of work and moolah to bring that X5 back into the drivers world.

So am I wrong in that the aero kit is not worth as much as I thought? I was thinking some NLA items such as the aero kit, running boards and tow hitch could fetch a good amount of money. The wheels could sell to the stance crowd for $400 and the rest could be parted out easily.

Heck, I'm even seeing 4.8is' for under $10k with low miles! https://delaware.craigslist.org/cto/6024362798.html

And a 4.4i with running boards and a tow hitch for $4500!

I've driven and owned many cars but I can say that even with a near mint E39 M5 in the garage I still love getting up and driving my E53 everyday. I've owned 4 of them now and each time I sell one I never find anything that I like more as a daily driver so I get another one and hopefully my 03 4.4i will be a keeper for a long time to come. It's been very well maintained throughout its life and I plan on doing the same. I seem to put more funds towards the E53 willingly than the M5 for some odd reason.

What you need to be concerned about is the number of problems that these lower priced X5 may exhibit and are need of some major repairs. That 4.4 on craigslist at least has some type of electrical, charging problem just by the fault light exhibited on the instrument cluster. Its gonna need some money to bring it back.

These vehicles are 14-17 years old now and people are looking for hassle free living and these are anything but so low demand = low price.

But there are plenty of people that can't afford a new BMW or a used CPO BMW, but now the price has dropped down so that instead of buying that couple of years old Kia, they can buy a BMW. They believe all that crap about German engineering, and just assume the car has to be good. It is only later that they realize that they been hoodwinked.

Look at some of the postings on the board these days. It normally start out with I just purchased my first BMW............................................

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
Sure you can buy a 4.4i for $4k - But you're going to put double that in the first year in maintenance to get it running right, if you're lucky

They are selling dirt cheap with 4-5 owners at this point because people pass the problems on to the next owner and things never run right -

Lower mileage, well maintained, low on owners examples still fetch a good price -

However, don't get me started on the overpriced used parts market for these 11-17 year old trucks - I'm sorry but there is nothing special about an E53 seat that should make it $350-400 apiece -

I laugh at the whole interiors on Ebay for $2k
