Connecting AUX cable- Need clarity
Trying to get an AUX in my 2002 X5 E53 3.0L. There are heaps of guides, but I'm getting no clarity It has the business CD version (DSP I believe), and I want to connect an AUX cable to it. Here is my radio- It has the 12-Pin input. However, it already had an adapter plugged into it I bought this from eBay, but the plug doesn't fit. I removed the cables and attempted but no luck. http://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/SeIAAO...Exq/s-l400.jpg - Can my cables touch each other? - Which colour (Red/White/Yellow) correlates to which PIN? - Can I just buy this 12-pin adapter to plug right in? It would mean I'd skip the end two wires (brown/white "stock" ones) |

Good day!!!
Richardb shared this on one of my treads... https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCd0...zX7yA/featured Some important info is that this works with E39 radios produced 09/2002 and up. Works with E53 radios produced 10/2002 and up... It might help you out!! Cheers!!

^Good video! Should help the op figure it out...
OP..You don't have DSP...regardless , an original cable from ECS or the dealer should work...Got mine from the dealer, I remember it was cheap as well. The original cable comes with a diagram that shows you where to plug it in...I remember I had an empty space and don't remember unplugging anything. If you look closely it might even say AUX

Thanks for the reply.
What works? Thats the video I've been following. And my cords are all different colors My cord looks like this: 1. Which colour (Red/White/Yellow) correlates to which PIN? 2. Can my cables touch each other at the pin place (I broke the cartridge it came with)? |

I am in the process of doing this myself on my E39, and will be doing it on the X. Your cable must have come with instructions. I have not seen that cable/connector in any of the tutorials I have watched or read. You may have the wrong one. And, be prepared to do lots of reading on which CD player to use. It isn't based on just they year of the car. Lots of cars have had units installed that were older. I would suggest you post a picture of the info tag on your CD player and let's see that. But, you can do a lot of the work and research on your own via other sites. Bimmerforums and the E39 section is really helpful

Yep been through all the guides on Bimmer forums too.
I've got a refund on my existing cord. I want to order a new one. To me, it looks like this (see image 1 below) 12-pin one would fit. However, it would mean the existing Black/Brown cords would not have a place. Do they matter? These are the cords I mean Here is my info tag- 1. 12 pin aux adapter Last edited by mcfee03; 03-21-2017 at 06:37 PM. |

in general terms, you have to remove the individual wires from the new aux plug and add them to the existing plug...

I've tried guessing and endless configurations tirelessly. Also- does it matter if these wires copper touch? (Ive broken the cartridge because I spend hours trying every f combination) |

You can figure the wire usage using a multi-meter (on continuity setting) and figure out which wire is the left signal wire, which is the right signal wire and which is the common (ground) wire. These should be mentioned in the instructions - and then the wire colours don't matter. Red, white and yellow aren't standard colours for this sort of connection. Here's hoping you new cable makes more sense and has better instructions.

I do not have a multi-meter.
What SA do I have? I've noticed many cable sellers say things like "Cars with SA 662/609 only" |
