What's up with FCP Euro lately?

Hey guys, kind of a rant, but it's the second order in a short amount of time that gets delivered late.
Here's the thing, I understand things can happen, weather, hurricanes, mud slides , airplane crash and whatnot.
But when you falsely advertise your shipping times, with no other variable in the mix but your lack of responsibility , it makes me wonder if it's worth ordering from them again.

First order was on March 21st. I chose UPS ground method...About 4 days later, still no tracking number or anything. Same day, I get one of the shocks that I ordered...ok, weird, I suppose it came from a different warehouse but where's the other shock and mounts?

I write an email to FCP asking about the rest of the items since there was no tracking provided yet after 4 days. On the 26th, I get an email back that I should be getting the items by the 29th. Ok , already annoyed and the items way late, I wait to get the package. Finally getting a tracking number and the shipping method is 3 day UPS. Really? So the items weren't even shipped from their warehouse, they shipped them same day I emailed for an explanation which was 5 days after the order was placed. Awesome FCP. And one of their customer service person(won't post name here) even tries to explain to me that he doesn't feel like anything is wrong. OK...WOW

Now I placed my second order , April 4th at 1:10AM.
Rear bearings. Mechanic said to bring it in Thursday night to have it fixed on Friday. He doesn't usually work weekends.
So I hop on FCP, and they have a little calendar when choosing shipping method, one of those "want it by that date, choose this shipping method" thing.
Ok , its the 4th at 1:10 AM. If they ship today and I choose the 2 day AIR, I'll get it here on the 6th by the end of the day. Order placed.
4th goes silent, on the 5th I'm getting a notification the package shipped.
I look at when it's gonna get delivered, it says 7th by the end of the day.

NOW WAIT A SECOND. Your website told me to pick 2 day shipping if I want it by Thursday NOT Friday. You had the 4th, all day long to ship the 2 bearings and you didn't. It's your fault the items get shipped out a day late, and AGAIN, they are trying to make it seem like what's such a big deal . This time another person, a gal.
Now I'm usually understanding of being a day late, but in this case I had to have it by Thursday , so I can have my X for the weekend. Now of course it's not possible because I'm not gonna beg my mechanic to work Saturday on my bearings and swear all day long while doing the job.

Guys, am I being unrealistic? Anyone had same thing happen to them?
At least if their people were apologetic and acknowledge the fact that they messed up, but no, they just try to make me feel like I'm a fool and don't know how to count. Makes me wonder if their LIFETIME warranty is of any good and if I should still give my money to them or switch to another company.

I know it's a long rant, but I had to know what others have experienced with FCP. They used to be great, I mean GREAT in the past few years when I ordered parts for all my E39's, but that is no more.
Let me know your experience.

I feel like you have every right to be upset. I would be pissed too.

I have noticed they are slow to update tracking info, but nothing has shown up noticably late in my experience. I have had good experiences overnighting with them. It sounds like your items were dropped shipped so maybe there was an issue in that area. But there is still no excuse. I did just receive a package of oddball parts from them in a timely matter.

I think you should talk to manager over the phone and let them know what's going on. To me this seems uncharacteristic of them.

I guess to a certain degree, it depends if it's being shipped from them versus drop shipped....

Just order a part on Monday. Received it Wed.
Granted I'm literally a hop and skip away from them and ground commit times are generally one day.

Nature of the beast I suppose. There is the variable when it's being dropped shipped

OT, but if you're having a Indy do the work, why not just let him WorldPac it and you pay the retail of whatever's he's asking...

Can't be that much more....worldpac delivers like same day in my part of the world, Indy takes responsibility from A-Z (whether the warranty is X miles/1 year), etc. It's his part he supplied it....stuff goes wrong, he's eating the labor on it.

I hate calling to order parts but email is subject to risk that cannot be eliminated when there is a deadline.

I have never had a problem with FCP. If I need it fast I confirm it is in stock when ordering by phone. They send an email within 48 hours advising ship date which means that if I must have the part in two days or less it necessitates a second call to confirm it has been shipped. Negates most of the risk but s$%t happens.

So, if I have no flexibility for receipt date I buy the part from dealer. I have developed a relationship with the parts department so I get a reasonable discount. If the part is not in stock it should be there within the time they say. But unless I leave with part in hand, since over the years there has been a couple of times the part was not at the dealer on time, I still have a plan B date/time to do the repair going either route.

Even with Amazon prime I still use the 'rule' of cheap-good-fast to most monetary decisions. I can only pick two. If I want it to be good and cheap it won't be fast. If I want fast and good it won't be cheap.

love me some amazon....can't complain about prime, or same day delivery, etc. Long items or heavy items can possibly be a hit or miss on shipping with them though. Really depends if it get's shipped in the original manuf. box or if they shop box/within a box and pack it well. THIS is really a hit or miss...

I've wondered myself, if Amazon offered a similar plethora of parts like the FCP/RME, etc, how great would it be. I'm just so used to the ~2 day commit~

I think auto parts vendors, unlike most vendors, should _know_ that the items they sell often have some type of urgency. That's probably why FCP has the calendar to help you choose the shipping option. So I agree, it is not really acceptable when they don't fulfill, especially when you actively pay the higher price for expedited shipping.

As an alternative, my favorite shop for BMW and Porsche parts is RMEuropean.com. They're in Colorado. Ground shipping is free with a minimum purchase ($75?). But the reliably nice surprise is that somehow they always send the stuff with the overnight DHL shipment. I don't know if it's because I'm in CA, or in the Bay Area of CA, but I always get free overnight (often with morning delivery) shipping when I'm paying nothing for the free ground shipping.

Since I expect the vendors to assume every auto parts order is urgent, for the times it is not, I add a note to let them know to take their sweet time on this one.

For the 2nd time in a little over a year, I had a shipment come in COMPLETELY MISSING one of the items on the packing slip, even though it had been checked off.

And its not like it was a small o-ring that was missing. It was a Gallon jug of coolant. The box that arrived wasn't even big enough to carry my full order.

I called them and specifically asked them to send the replacement by USPS so that there would be *some* chance of it being delivered on Saturday, when I was doing my thermostat job. When I finally got the tracking info Friday afternoon, it had shipped UPS and was scheduled for Monday. I called back again and told them it was unacceptable that they mess up my shipment twice and that I wanted, at the very least, my coolant refunded since now I would have to try to source it locally.

They refunded me without hesitation (though, now that I think of it, I never verified that with my bank statements). But it still irked me. I still recommend them, I still plan to continue using them. But they are starting to tick me off a bit.

Oh, and one more thing. The VERIFIED FITMENT on the aluminum water pump bolts that I was prompted to order when I bought my water pump, were neither the right material, nor the right diameter, nor the right thread pitch.
