DIY: CV Joint Removal Tool anyone?
Now it is $20 on ebay with FREE shipping! If you go to ebay and youtube and enter search terms "CV Joint Tool", you will see it. The photo shows the "100-mm" tool, can someone confirm that this tool works for X5 axle? This tool makes CV Joint work painless, no need for Vise, hammer, punch etc. Of course you still have to spread the "C-clip" but that is all you have to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WfjqaDj_XME

The tool looks useful. I bought one for the next time I take off a CV joint. This makes it look like I could easily change the boots, with the inner end of the axle still attached. That should be convenient enough to easily pay for the tool if it helps when I need to do that.
Thanks for the heads up cn90. There are multiple eBay sellers of what appears to be the identical item. I got mine for 18.50 with no tax and free shipping. I'll report back when I actually use it.

I have one of those. I did not use it since I could not get the wheel hub off. I tried yanking it and it would not move. So I put it back together to try another day.
I am actually going to try the stretch boots that you put on with a cone. I know I am taking a risk, but I wanted to see if they were worth it since it makes changing cv boots quick (if you can get the wheel hub off).

The tool is tool small for the CV threaded axle to fit into it. Save your money. Just remove the axle, clamp the axle in a good vise and use a brass punch and a Big hammer (not those wimpy carpenters hammers that everyone has lying around their house) and a couple of blow will have the CV joint off the shaft. To put the CV joint back on the axle just put the joint back on the axle and install the nut and then just smack the axle and CV joint into the concrete. One blow and the CV joint is back on with the axle clips and all.

It is amazing how many times I've used my JC Whitney (back in the days when Taiwan made their tools) slide hammer kit over the last 30 years ... including the last time I changed a CV joint boot, if I remember that correctly. This will be even better, I hope.

All those pushers and other tools arent worth a damn.
Im assuming that your trying to get the outer part of the CV pushed out of the hub/knuckle. Easiest way if they are really stuck which they usually are, air hammer with the pointed tip to help loosen it (even that doesnt work at first sometimes), hit it with a torch for a little but not long as the bearings are there, and get a cylinder peice of steel as a punch, i had a small piece laying around and ground the front on a bench grinder to fit in the CV dimple, wacked it a few times with a sledge then finish with air hammer. You can manuever them out by disconnecting the rear part of lower control arm that connects to subframe- even the pass side one which is super long.(For pass side i also believe i took the 2 strut bolts out. Thats the quickest way with minimum disassembly.
