X5 mpg
I have a 2003 BMW X5 3.0d automatic I bought it about 3 years ago at about 67k on the clock It's now at 104k which I think is still pretty decent for the age, I do a mixed about if driving of motorways and city. When I bought the car I was getting anything between 550 to 650 miles to a full tank. Now I'll be lucky to get 400. I service it regularly Let the engine warm up for about 5 minutes before I drive off since iv bought it and still can't figure out why it drinks so much The tyre on the car are brand new and are all balanced and 4 wheel tracked Suspension was changed to coil springs etc so everything on the car as far as I can see is on point Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do to bring the mpg back up |

my first thought would be to cease the 5 minutes of idling ... that should help with some of the excess fuel consumption:
{from the owners manual...see text highlighted in yellow}

May be nozzles do not hold pressure and are leaking! But in a city during winter 600-650km for full tank is ok!if u drive straight outside city...u can get up to 1000km

Are the tires the same size as those replaced?
Any changes to how or where you drive? Same fuel source(s) Any loss of performance? Air filter clean?

Make sure the thermostat is up and running properly, the newer E70s suffer from stuck open thermostats which clogs the EGR and DPF, and in general reduces gas mileage. It runs the motor cool enough yet will not show up on the dash gauge.
Change your fuel filter, make sure your injectors and nozzles are clean and not leaking, alignment, tire pressure, all can result in affected mileage.

The Glow plugs are mostly used for a cold startup then they pulse a bit until the combustion chamber is to the desired temperature, then they are no longer required until the next cold start.
