Need help. Steering grinding when turning righ any speed.

So I have a funky ass problem and here is what I have done thus far.

Out of nowhere, I got a horrible metal on metal grind when turning right only. Standing still, moving, doesn't matter, same thing. I only get a turning left grind when going reverse, but it seems to grind equally in both directions when backing up.

So I checked the fluid level, perfect. I swapped out a bunch of hoses, fluid res, and pentosin flush a few years ago. They were sweating, but still should be fresh enough.

I jacked up car, no load on front, no noise at all. Shit.

I put car on ramps, turning right, noise was there. Had my neighbor help by steering while I was under there. I could feel the tie rods grinding, or so I thought. Got new tie rods. I figured never done anyway, and they felt very loose. Got the inner and outer ones, took about an hour to bang them out. Lower the car, drives great, no noises. Great. Go get allignment. 30 fooookin miles later the noise is back. Wtf.

My friend at OMG motorwerks is suggesting I check that the rack is tight, he said he experienced something similar in an e46 not too long ago. I will try that shortly. Like I'm an hour or so lol. I was hoping to get a few more ideas to check while I'm under there.

Noise is for sure coming from bottom. I can feel it in the pass side hub. It is hard to tell where it is coming from exactly because it's that loud and is literally metal on metal. Like you trying to press the thrust arm bushing in every time you even nudge the steering wheel to the right.

This is in a separate post because I am not sure if this is related.

So imagine your are pulling in nose first into a parking spot at speed. You turn wheel right to pull into spot, and then while on the brakes you turn wheel left to correct your angle in said spot. Still rolling on the brakes. I get a grind on the right wheel when doing that. Only in that scenario. When transitioning from right steering to left steering while on the brakes. Not sure if this is related. This issue seems to have began slightly before the grinding above.

Since noise went away when you replaced tie rods, the first thing I would do is check my work and that of the alignment shop to see if something came loose. However, since suspension parts have similar lifecycles, I would also check over the rest of the suspension. Use an auto stethoscope, an extension even a screwdriver held against moving suspension components to pinpoint the source.

Ty for reply.

So the car was standing for 12 days. Tried to diagnose it again today. It hasn't been making the noise no matter how long I'm driving it. So far I haven't really tightened anything. I put a bit of torque on the stiffening plate under the engine. But everything else was tight. I put some dope ass effort on it too. Tried to look at it again for any visible sight of flex while neighbor jerked the wheel around. Nothing out of ordinary. No noises so far. I'll be driving it around hard all week now to try to get it to come back.

I had a rock fall in between the rotor and backing plate one time and it made a grinding noise. Took it back to the dealer because the car was still under warranty and they found the rock and didn't charge me for the service.

I'd go as far as a wheel bearing starting to take a crap? Usually if only one wheel is grinding I'd look at wheel to strut clearance and see if it's bent and rubbing, or if you have aftermarket wheels, did they start rubbing the fender liner on turns?

Nope. OE 20" rims. Wheel baring is a possibility but no strange noises noises when I load them up during sweeping turns. It's straight up sometimes grinding on turning the wheel. Moving or not, brakes or not. It only came back a few times since then. Nothing consistent, and not there every damn time I try to get under it and listen.

Makes sense. Even the turn braking grind. Which drive shafts did you go with?
