I just pulled the following code:

"74 AirCon Compressor Relay"

Does anyone know exactly what it means?

I think its back to what William X5 suggested, the control module may have a fault in it.

That's what I was thinking since the IHKA acts as the "relay" for the ac compressor. It would certainly be easier to correct than compressor issues! Thanks for the input!

Yea a lot of the modules have on board relays. When they fail the entire module unit has to be replaced. It reminds me of the power seat switch and how it has integrated relays on the module. The relay within fails and so the power telescope steering wheel malfunctions but the seat still works. Replace the switch with module and all begins to work correctly.

I think williamX5 is on the right track, maybe check wiring to the compressor clutch for damage.

Good day!

After reading the post from Zulu95, you might have the chafed wire behind the panel since you have an 02... I'll snap a pic of my 01 for reference of the wire harness... it does have an unusual 90 deg bend right there...

It is amazing what a simple SEARCH can turn up.
Of course it was aided by me remembering this has been covered more than a few times since I joined in 2004.

I've taken a few days off from car woes to work in the yard before it gets way too hot. I saw that video about the chafed wires and checked them last week. My X5 has a plastic edge guard and all the wires I could look at looked fine. My daughter drove the X5 yesterday afternoon with no issues at all. I'll probably drive it to work tomorrow and see how that goes. I'll probably buy a used control unit locally next week.
Thanks again for everyone's help and I'll keep you posted.
