how do i change electric folding mirrors to manual?

life is far too short to be pissing around fixing the electric folding mirrors every couple of months.
can i change the inner motors for just a manual mechanisms, that won't break as easy.
is it an easy job?

You don't have to change them. They can already be folded manually. Just push them to the folded position with your hand.

130+ since new

Have replaced one mirror switch and on the other, I replace the mirror since the gearing had too much slop. It was never the same after coming back to the car one day and seeing the mirror flipped outward. Must have taken a good wack.

Granted I don't fold the mirrors in everyday - aka, MB style - they are used here and there...

YMMV

They do not fold manually. If they get slightly knocked, they go loose.

My electric folding mirrors can be manually folded, too. And if they get bumped (like in a tight parking space)...just hit the button to fold them back into place or to fix any slop.

But like 99% of us that have them, they don't want to stay folded inward when used...they pop back in place within 5-10 seconds. I only use them electrically when I'm parked on the right side of the garage...and when backing out I'm close to the garage door frame...I can fold them in quickly to get past the frame, and they pop back by themselves.

But I also fold the driver's side mirror in manually when parked on the left side of the garage to make it easier to walk by the vehicle as it's parked in the garage because that's the side the door into the house is on.

In fact, it's manually folded in right now.

I think what the OP is trying to say is that his manual fold gears are shot....
AKA, you can flip them in the rest position, but any movement that pushes the mirror enough, it just goes flip-floppin

BTFT (been there, fixed that)

Easy fix (usually) - the position micro-switch jumps out of it's retainer - just clip it back in and away they go. One side out will affect both mirrors.

Sometimes the micro-switch get damaged once it's popped out of place, as per the images in this thread...

To WPoll:

Saved instructions...now let's see how long it takes me to get around to it.

But much thanks.
