upper tailgate(trunk) removal

i have a nice job coming up due to rust on the upper tailgate of removing the entire tailgate. (trunk) and fitting another trunk, so ive got to remove it , re align it and feed all the wires and the washer tube

has any one done this or can you point me in the direction of some videos?. ive looked on the forum and had a look on the inet but cant find anything

plus ive got the drivers front and rear doors to remove also , but thats for another day ( or week)

Cheers

Steve

Eeeks. Granted the hatch does get moved along with the wires....I'd be scared to touch 15+ year wiring and mess with the insulation, etc

Good day!!

Well, I can't say I have done it, but I kinda witnessed someone doing just what you have planned... I was pulling parts for my 4.6is from a new arrival to the YPIY when another duo came up wanting the upper rear hatch... It was the correct color for them and it was pretty compared to what they had on their vehicle... Despite all that was going for them, they did not end up leaving with the hatch... the wire runs and associated work involved was more than they were willing to devote to the replacement hatch... The interior panels around the rear section, the flooring over the spare needed to come out as did the trays on each side... The headliner, the hatch trim, and I think the rear seats... For some reason, there is no close connector for some of the wires...

If you do this, it would be great to see some photos or video of the job...

Cheers!!!!

hmm, I think Steve (me) will remove it another way, I have thought about removing the wires from the components in the tailgate, and feeding them out of the rubber bungs near the hinges and then removing the tailgate with NO wires in , if worst case , remove connectors so I'm just pulling wires out ,
will have to see what I'm up against but I/we ( Dave and me) will have a go at anything
and if that doesn't work , ill get a really really big hammer and beat the crap out of it.
but saying that , I will have a pal of mine helping me , and hes kinda got OCD so ive no idea how he will tackle it

Those of us with CDO (OCD in alphabetical order as it should be) are great to have around for jobs like these... I think they wanted to keep the wires for some reason that I can't remember... But if you can fit the connectors thru the holes in the hatch, that is probably the best bet...

Good luck!!! And we love pictures on here... Just don't go with the (BLEEP BLEEP) at photobucket... I lost nearly ten years of write-ups cause now they want to charge me to leave pictures displayed instead of a generic image that is about the same amount of data used... Okay, rant over... I use Imageshack now....

Cheers!!!

looks like when the guy broke the car he just cut the wires and removed the tailgate
I got a load of wires pocking through the rubber grommets
and when I do it , yeah , pictures galore, I don't understand why any one hasn't done this job before?.
it cant be THAT difficult

oh hold on ,

your cars don't rust really do they (exclude accident damage)
damn you Britain !!!!!

Yes I looked in TIS but no mentioning of the wiring that goes into it.

I can fish all the wires out but seeing if the is a bulk connecter behind/under the fuse box and woofer that I can disconnect and remove it as a whole harness.
