As far as the night image quality, I still don't have an android yet so I can't comment on that but Crowz said it was as good as he has seen with a half dozen he has used in previous installations.

Quality is great on the camera overboost and I have. It's better than the factory one in my 2013 E70 and all of the other ones I have (10 or so) except the one in my corvette. But that camera is huge and wouldn't fit on the E53 without looking like crap.
Night vision is perfect too.

Thank you both for the additional info on the camera. I may just go that route rather than dealing with the modified license plate light type. Might be an easier install as well. I bought another one like the one you posted but not that brand. Wondering if I should just say screw it and get that one since you both have it and its proven!
Now does any of you know about the ibus and eonon diagnostic adapters? lol

The ibus adapter info in the link in my signature covers all of the ibus info and will work on any android radio that has a usb port.

It can also perform a few other advanced functions, like some coding etc. The OBD "diagnostics" is just that - diagnostics. It uses a different app and requires a BT OBD adapter to be plugged into the 16-pin ODB port on the car. They are very different things and have little (if any) cross-over.

IMHO, the iBus adapter and app are fantastic. All the OBC functionality is returned, that had been lost by installing an Android head unit plus some mild light coding options and other cool features are within the "Settings" area of the app

fastening the head unit in NAV/DSP replacement
I just finished installing an Eonon ga9166 in my 2004 BMW E53 w/NAV and DSP using a lot of the tips I found on this board. All went very well with one exception.
When tightening the two screws, that fasten the head unit, the bottom of the head unit comes out of the dash. If I leave the screws loose, the bottom of the head unit will vibrate out of the dash while driving. Has anyone seen this problem? Last edited by thewizard; 03-28-2019 at 08:39 PM. |

The OEM system has a small rubber-covered "pin" at the rear of the unit that sits in a hole at the back of the dash cavity. This pin might be able to be removed from your OE unit and fitted to the Eonon. See this post... https://xoutpost.com/1148671-post29.html Others have adding extra material to the dash framework to help support the new unit.
