Hello all!
I've purchased a newer Hizpo headunit to replace my slow aftermarket Seicane and am awaiting it's arrival. My X5 had DSP, with Nav, so I had to run the 6m extension cable to the trunk. Everything has been working fine, besides the occasional hiccup with the I-Bus app and the unit just freezing completely, so I'm looking forward to seeing the capability of this new Hizpo. Its an 8-core with 4gb ddr4 memory, so here's hoping its going to be a good upgrade. The instructions they provided for my new unit state that I don't need to use the 6m extension cable, and that they have it setup to plug into the Blue nav connector as shown in the photo. I'd like to know how this will establish a connection with the DSP to make it work correctly. If anyone has a diagram for the blue nav connector, and could share it, i'd appreciate it. I know the blue plug has to at least have a switched power and the ibus line and audio lines for the tape player. My understanding is that I will still need to use the I-Bus adapter and app, but I'm very confused on how their wiring will work with my current setup. When I bought the Seicane, I removed the OEM radio, nav display, and CD changer, and in my haste to make back the money I had spent on my new unit, I sold them all, and no longer have any of the OEM radio equipment. The blue plug in the back of the car is no longer connected to anything, so I'm wondering how this setup will even work. If anyone has any insight, I'd love to hear from you. Thanks! My apologies for hijacking this thread, if you believe i should start my own please let me know.

I'd be interested in this also.
Do you have a link to the unit? |

I recently posted this in another thread about board monitor issues. It's for a 4.8is but I think should be applicable across the range with Nav/DSP or Nav/HiFi combinations.

Thanks for the recommendation to make my own thread about my aftermarket radio install. I've learned so much scouring Xoutpost for help with wiring and general information, so it only seems fitting to see if i can provide some help for those looking to install one. Thank you to all who come onto this forum to help people out. You are the true heroes! Here's a brief rundown, as I've got it working, and I will start compiling a thread for my install. Here is the link to the unit i purchased from eBay. It is a Hizpo S2. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394314088676 The seller states it's plug and play, but lo' and behold it is not, at least in my case. May be different for other models. The unit can receive power from pin 7 on the blue connector, but that's it really. It has the connection for the I-Bus and the tape audio cables as well in that plug, but they won't be utilized. You still need to have the I-BUS adapter and app if you have the DSP amp in your car, as it is needed to send the signal to the amp to activate and stay on, and you will still need the 6m extension cable to hook up the speakers to the head unit. It will need to be rewired at the dash with a BMW metra harness. I purchased this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000LUBRBK...roduct_details Nothing changed with the I-BUS adapter really, as it was already wired to work correctly. Simply plug in the USB to the headunit, and install and activate the app and you're good to go, after setting everything back up settings-wise of course. Anyway. I'll start my own detailed thread on how my install went, and see if I can provide anymore info to those looking for help with these newer units. Thanks!

Where do people run the 6m cable from the new head unit into the rear of the car for DSP equipped cars?
I'm not keen on taking the centre console out to run it as I've seen in some installs. Is there another route? I have a RHD car and am also running the antenna extension. Thanks |

I ran mine down under the console. Unbolted the back, IIRC, and ran it under the carpet to the rear hatch area.
You could also try to run it down the side but my rationale at the time was that there were fewer things to disassemble going under the console Mike
