If my X5 did not have a NAV or DSP or Bluetooth, would it be safe to assume I don't have the factory GPS antenna?

Id say the odds are not in your favor I know some vehicles include one anyway. Look for the gps antenna in the passenger side hatch compartment where the factory nav would of been.

Snik asked me if a radio like mine would work with his dsp but his inbox is full so answering it here.

---------------------

That's the one I have and its supposed to work with dsp using the ibus unit listed in my radio thread install and hooking up the dsp amp turn on wire like shown in the video in that thread too. I don't have dsp so I can't really say other than that.

DSP turn on wire may work for some, but it didn't work for mine. I had to buy a different harness so the factory stereo stayed in the ibus loop. Without the factory stereo in the loop, the DSP amp would turn off.

I also had to code the DSP amp so it knew the board monitor had been removed. After doing that, the DSP amp works fine with the ibus stick and app.

I'm going to install a seicane radio in my daughters 528i e39 with dsp to test some of this stuff to see if I can come up with a list of what to do on the dsp stuff.

Need to get some kind of definite solution list for making sure the factory radio isn't in the mix at all.

That's sounds complicated. I don't do complicated.
What do you mean it will work for some? Some folks have reported it work while others don't?
Can I just bypass it and still get sound?
Why doesn't anyone make a plug and play setup?

You should be able to hook up one wire more than we had to do and everything just work. But I don't have dsp in my X5 so I cant test it for you.

We will help you as much as we can though

As for why they don't just make a plug and play? Simple, there weren't that many bmw x'5 made vs other cars and the dsp system lowered the amount made even more. From a stereo manufacturer standpoint vs market size I'm amazed how many radios there actually are to be honest.

I thought they shared almost everything with the E39s. Including how the whole stereo is setup and works?

Seicane has a DSP harness and says it is plug and play.

When you install the Seicane system you lose the cluster info. That is a separate issue that as I understand this thread is resolved by the iBus install.

I am following along but in order to do the iBus thing I will need the instructions in one post. I have an aftermarket amp and subwoofer. It was originally the DSP system and I can still adjust sound using the DSP Settings. What I don't know is since I had the DSP system will my setup still be a DSP setup or is it a straight forward install now that I have the aftermarket amp and subwoofer. My guess is the install, and that is entirely what it is, will be straight forward ignoring the DSP past.
