Hard to unlock car

Hey,

Just wanted to post a quick question about this as I’ve been seeing a bunch of different ways and methods of possibly fixing this, but I'd like to hear what guys have to say about it and maybe what the best option is.

So locking the car with the key, driver door, (towards the back the car), is fairly easy. The key turns nice and smooth. But, locking the door (turning the key towards front of the car), it is very hard and difficult to fully turn the key to lock the car.

Some have said wd40, but I’ve also read that it isn't good because it would collect dust and whatnot.
another method is using graphite lubricant?

I’ve tried using lock lubricant and de-icer. One of those small bottles, but I was wondering if there was a better option?

* the battery in the key is dead, as I cannot use the key to unlock the doors anymore *
Thanks in advance

It's very unlikely the battery in your fob is dead. More likely that there is a bad solder joint there's a guy that fixes them for 60 bucks. He will usually replace the battery at the same time for a very small extra amount. I know this because both of my keys acted like a dead battery and when I Reflow the solder in side they both came back to life.

Moving on to the problem on hand: sounds like the plastic connector that goes from the key cylinder into the lock actuator is broken. Get the kit to repair that problem. It's very easy to remove the cylinder find a YouTube video showing how. Take that out and you can do a much better job of cleaning and lubrication. Once you verify the cylinder will work both directions then look inside the hole in the door you should be able to turn the plastic "+" in the door lock actuator with a finger both ways. If that is difficult one way you can likely see that it is cracked and causing the binding.

Somebody sells a kit. I've seen a link to eBay. Inexpensive under $20

Never thought about that, thanks. I will definitely look into it.

As for the key being dead, I do know about the guy you are referring to. IIRC, he is located in Cali? I was debating on sending my key to him for the repair, I just ended up deciding to putting that off. Was also thinking of replacing the battery myself,.

The last time I bought a new key it was $120.00 from the dealer. Why not just get a second key?

Replacing battery not likely the cure. If you have two keys I recommend opening up one and measure the voltage. The repair guy charges more if you try to fix yourself before sending in but if you only do it to check the voltage I think he wouldn't.

Its $180-210 for a new key now.

I actually asked the dealer how much it would be for a new key; they quoted for $250

Did you ask “service” for a quote, or the “parts” department? Service is going to charge you to “program” the key to the car but that’s BS. It comes coded to your car, you just have to sync it to the keyless entry system which takes 60 seconds.
