Both the E53 and the E70 have them. Coded the E70 to fold on comfort lock/unlock. And I fold the E53's with the button every time I park. So it's a feature that gets used A LOT on our trucks.

I like that aftermarket option as a potential replacement, especially if the internals are of a more robust design. Keep us updated Ob.

Where did you find aftermarket PF mirrors?

Well as I park the car and look over all my work and the units themselves, I have to say I am very happy with them. Everything operates just as it should and looks very good installed. They sound good on rotation and lock back in with zero play.

Looking back, I had bought 2 different "good used" sets last year of fleaBay and found both times the "good used" sets were complete garbage. Both fleaBay sellers refunded my money even with return shipping so real loss other than a huge disappointment for me. I priced new from FCP Euro and it was going to be a little over $500 each but did not include mirrors or covers. Add the cost of those and it was pushing $2K. I had just walked away from my desire of ever having folding mirrors.

My current old mirrors had the dirty right side memory so it didn't tilt correctly in reverse and it never returned to the standard driving setting once back in drive. The mirrors themselves had the lamination failures and showed the spots so I needed replacements and started looking online and that's where I found these kits.

My initial impression is they are worth the money, I am very pleased. I will wait a few months and make sure everything wears well before painting the covers. They really don't look bad or kick in my OCD with the matte finish so I am satisfied.

Here is the link to the seller if anyone is interested, I am impressed so far. Remember you will need to buy the drivers door window/mirror module to get the button for the folding mirror command. I bought mine off fleaBay for $60 last year.

Here is the video of the operation:

And what the final result looks like:

Link isn't working.

I went through the exact same thing, but I had PF w/ all options standard and was just trying to get fixed.

Two ebay units were junk, 1 from a junkyard was also junk, all said "good condition" but were all floppy and didn't work properly.

But in the end mine ended up being the passenger side window switch that had water damage.

I just want to have replacement backup once my oems crap out.

I click on the link and viglink kicks in but there should be a Wayfair box with a button on the bottom saying to continue to 1A Auto? Goes right to it. If not just go to 1aauto.com and search mirrors and then kits for whatever year your X is.

Nope. Everything works until it doesn't right? I drive the wheels off my cars too without worry when something will break. Something will break eventually, lol probably the trans, but life is too short to worry about it every time I get in the truck.

Ob, was this plug and play? If my mirrors do go down it would be nice to have a new, possibly more robust option available..

Yes sir. I had folding mirrors in a little over an hour. Truly plug and play.

The only thing I do not have working yet is the puddle lights in the mirror housings. My X has never had them so I may need to code them in NCS Expert, I'm not sure. I looked at the GMIII module with BMW Scanner 1.4 and no option there. I look at it in NCS Expert and I see a OPT_ENTRY_HELP (VISUAL ENTRY FACILITY) is set to nicht active. I am still hunting the interwebz for an answer as to what that line actually does. I wonder if any of our guys have an idea?

I never seen an option for the puddle lights on PA Soft 1.4. I put LEDs in mine but find them useless, not bright enough. The street lights over power them. In NYC all the street lights have been converted to some powerful LEDs

Yup, OPT_ENTRY_HELP was the ticket. I found a copy of the full FSW PSW trace file from TerminatorX5 back in 2012 and he had his set to active. Went out and coded mine to active and viola! Puddle Lights! Thanks TerminatorX5!
