What scanner should I buy? Best bang for the buck
My 4x4 and yellow brake lights are on dash and having trouble figuring it out. Whats the lowest cost scanner that will help diagnose? Found this one on FCP Euro (BMW Diagnostic Scan Tool - iCarsoft BMII for $150, https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...-icarsoft-bmii), but never used a scanner and not sure what to look for in one. My car is a 2005 X5 4.4, and my wife has a 2017 X6 6cyl S drive so hopefully it would work on her car and others also. |

Normally I go for the notebook computer route but looking at what that thing claims to do and the price I would go for it if you just want something to do scanning with.
You can always do a notebook computer setup later for advanced coding. That gadget would be handy forever just to keep in the car for pulling codes and such later too. So I would buy one if it was me.

I have several scan tools, the best one I have found is the Schwaben one from ESC tuning, or Foxwell NT510 (same scan tool)
It was able to do everything I wanted. diagnose the coolant valve solenoid, as well as tell me the transmission temp. it also has a generic obd2 program, to scan other makes too. I think I paid 149$ for it. money well spent!! a lot of the lap top specific ones mean you need the laptop to go with it! this one is stand alone, easy to use, and easy to update! good luck!

I have the Schwaben as well. i bought it after I bought and used the Creator. The Creator was glitchy and the descriptions were obviously written by someone who spoke english as second language. |

EVERYONE should get this-
smart phone app - OBD Fusion (about $5)? OBD2 scanner tool - Plugs into the cars port and sends info via wifi or bluetooth (about $20) https://www.ebay.com/itm/Veepeak-Min...item41ce66b8c9 read your codes on the fly and performance info. AND - clear your "service eng soon" just before your smog test.....

I have the schwaben as well, like the unit but I haven’t used it for coding yet. Scanning codes is quick and easy.

I'm not sure the Schwaben unit allows you to code. If it does, I haven't found it yet. Other than coding a SAS or one or two other replacement parts, I don't think it gives you the coding capability of INPA.
