Any suggestions on the filter? I am getting ready to do the transmission fluid change and want to use the best filter available. I have the GM A5S 390R in my 2004 3.0L.
What is everyone's opinion on filters?

I have a 2003 Model 4.4 with the 5 speed 5HP-24,

I have been using the Meistersatz filter kits with metal gasket for several of my E46 and E53 services and been very pleased.

3.0 looks like here:

Ditto on the meistersatz. The metal gasket is better and the filter that comes with the metal gasket kits seems to be better as well. I bought a kit with the non-metal gasket once and the plastic filter looked very crude and had a piece broken off in the box.

So the 2001 3.0 came with the GM A5S-390R in Australia as well? (I'm assuming it did and was assembled in Greer, SC).

I did mine 2 years ago and went with Mobil ATF Dexron VI. Got it from The Lubricant Store for under $5 a quart at case price:
