also, after thinking on it a little I see why the harbor freight fuel pressure kit doesnt work. the shraeder valve is recessed in the fuel rail so there's no way the adapter can physically push it open when screwed down. looks like the simply thing to do is just unscrew the shraeder valve and put the adapter on that way since it has its own shraeder valve.
Come on a used fuel pump. This really shouldn't be a consideration. Buy some piece of mind for you wife and family. Suppose you had put that used fuel pump in the X5 and your wife and child get stranded out on the road because the used one failed? Now they are stuck and stranded in the cold until help can arrive. 177K on the last pump served you well. Get a new one and filter and roll on.

Well if my pump failed on a weekend or at night, my USED pump can be installed to get the X running again. AAA can get me home and I can probably remove and install a pump in 30 minutes, a little longer if it is cold outside.

The used pump is my contingency plan. If I don't use it I'll just eBay it and double or triple my investment. As you are well aware, with a 16 plus-year-old car, not every BMW owner can afford to buy new parts. I also have a spare alternator for my car as well that I picked up for 15 bucks at my local pick n pull. Looking for a heated steering wheel since steering wheels are only 10 bucks. There are pickers out there that just pick and sell parts on eBay.

I tested the USED pump once I got home and it is purring like a kitten and pumping gas like Old faithful.

If he wanted to buy some piece of mind for his wife and family, he shouldn't have bought or still be driving a 15+ years old BMW. He should have bought a Toyota.

Upallnight is suggesting (logically) that an OE pump with 100,000 miles will likely outperform a new knock off.

With BMW charging $300+ for OE and $120 for China clone it's hard to avoid aiming low.

I put a clone pump in wife's car. I specifically picked one with 1 year warranty which I'm glad because it died in 10 months.

It's so easy to swap a fuel pump on an x5 i might buy that one off Don just to have a spare on hand.

OE pump is a virtual guarantee of 6000 hours. That can be well over 200,000 highway miles.

Yes that's why I said no need to replace the filter = pressure regulator.

R U still looking for a sun visor for you X? There's an X5 with a Tan interior at victory auto wrecker in Bensenville. I may stop by today or tomorrow. Their price for a sun visor is $5.00, with no core charge. Which side are you looking for?

Yes both actually. I can PayPal when you find out they still have visor. $5 amazing. I repaired the visors but I had to cut the fabric to figure out how to disassemble. The passenger repair is ok so priority on driver side.

... and the fuel pump itself (removed from the plastic assembly) is so small it could easily be stowed with the spare tire as a spare (stowed alongside my multimeter, tire plug repair kit, etc.).

Also, it sound like upallnight got an original pump. But he could have got lucky with a recently replaced BMW pump.

Is it a special fastener that they use to secure the visor to the headliner?
