Quick update for anyone following -

Changed CCV, alternator, power steering hoses, cleaned icv, manifold, throttle body, replaced ofhg gasket.

Also, replaced transmission filter and fluid, replaced diff and transfer case fluids. used DIS to reset the transfer case adaptations.

Now working on replacing the suspension components(control arms, ball joints both front and rear, tierods), oil pan gasket, rod bearings(while in there type thing @ 130K miles), front wheel bearings and brake pads and rotors..

Also, ordered some Michellins all around. And the last time I need to replace for now is valve cover gasket/spark plugs, vanos seals, intake and exhaust camshaft sensors..

And also, replaced the fuel filter. Luckily didn't have any issues with the fuel line clips.. Although, ordered some dormans in case I needed them.

Nice work! I have the transmission and diff service on my list as well as engine and transmission mounts. How dirty was your trans fluid and diff oils?

Welcome. Do a very comprehensive fluid change of all compartments. Front & rear differentials, power steering fluid, automatic transmission and transfer case. Redline meets the requirements. Their GL-5 for the diff's, ATF for transmission, ATF or their power steering product for product steering. ZF for the transfer case, you'll need to reprogram to tell the car that you changed this fluid.

If you have air suspension, take a good look at the "bags" for cracking and if so, seriously consider replacing them BEFORE you have leaks. Do them in pairs, Arnott products are quite good (I've used them on my car).

Redline oil has replaced "lifetime" fluids (F&R diff, manual transmission, transfer case and P/S).
Dimple magnetic drain plugs in all compartments.

Joe, The diff and transfer fluids were clean(surprisingly, with 130K miles). Trans fluid was dark, but the pan was clean and there were no metal pieces that grabbed, but there was a layer of paste like material stuck to the magnet.. I replaced the filter and drained and filled the fluid twice. I will do one more time later this year after replacing the transmission cooler and lines..

Thanks, yup, used redline for both diff's. However, for trans I went with castrol dex vi because it was on sale and been using castrol atf for PS in all my cars. For transfer case, ended up getting the shell specific fluid for xdrive and had to reset the adaptations..

Congrats on your find and choice. Sounds like you’re on the right PM path for a vehicle of this mileage.

Please say more about resetting the adaptations in your fluid change. I have done all driveline fluids in my 2003 4.4 and did not do this. I now have a Creator 310+ code scanner if I needed to do this reset, I believe the 310+ has the capability.

Mike

Nice job on the maintenance. All of this is on my list but since I'm northeast of Seattle I either need room in my shop or nice weather. Since I have an engine swap going on in one vehicle and a tranny rebuild waiting on another, it may be a couple of months before it happens. I don't see the weather cooperating for a while. I really need to move to a dryer and warmer climate. This winter has been cruel and unusual punishment.

Weather in Houston this winter was horrible. Frozen and burst water pipes. My 3 car garage is full, so had to work in the driveway and it sucked. Will never do it again. Dont understand how folks in the northeast work on their cars in freezing temps..
