Feedback on video:

First: ya don't suck.

For starter video it's great. I do one hand holding phone other manipulating all the time but you will get feedback that it's "amateur hour" to which I say "duh".

I like the real world feel of sharing as is what's on my mind as I do it. Very similar real feel of sharing what is on your mind.

Great item and topic to share. I particularly liked the idea of keeping in the car to use with the USB power that everybody has to charge their smart phone.

Just the right amount of southern accent to give of southern hospitality vibe and that will not hurt.

I will be interested to see your future videos.

Thanks for the great video and help!

I've had a dead key since I bought the X in August, so this is definitely better than buying a new key or even trying to open it and replace the battery!

@seven: if no success, it's very likely you have a bad solder joint. I have a tutorial somewhere how to measure the voltage on the battery with two pins poked in exactly the right place. It can help diagnose the problem. Both of my keys needed solder reflow and it brought them both back to life. Apparently they can handle only so many hundred drops in 17 years. I replaced one of the batteries but it probably didn't even need it these cells are amazing what other rechargeable cell can last two decades.

I saw the video yesterday and picked up a charger on fleaby for around $11 shipped. Very nifty little thing to have around for these keys.

I'd imagine you can plug it into your computer at home and it'll do the same thing. I have extra diamond remote keys for my X and M5 that I don't use, so it would probably be a good idea to throw each of those on for 30 min each every 6 months to keep it fresh?

Probably would be a good idea. At least 15 min every 6 months would probably do it too.

I was rather hoping that all this wireless charging stuff would be standardised but it turns out it's not.

I have a bunch of Samsung kit that used the Qi standard, (Galaxy S6, Wireless charge pad etc.) and thought it might work on the car keys as described above.

But alas, no. It turns out the Samsung Gear watches don't use the Qi wireless charging standard, hence it seems reasonable that my Samsung Qi-based charge pad won't do anything for the BMW keys.

But at least the alternative is cheap (in the USA anyway...)
