A/C Compressor Seized?
Yesterday, just after starting the car the battery light came on, and the steering got very heavy.
There was also a burning rubber smell and black smoke from the engine bay of my X5 3.0D.
When I opened the hood, I saw that the fan belt was not turning, which was causing t6he smoke.
When I turned the A/C off, the belt started turning, so I drove home without the A/C.
But occasionally, especially when turning, the battery light would come on and the steering got heavy. But this only lasted for a few seconds.
I am assuming the A/C compressor has seized.
Is this a simple repair. or a major job?
