n62 camshaft adaptation INPA
As you see ouput Bank1 and input Bank2 is out of range and keeps getting worse! Could anyone tell me what is the cause and can it be fixed ? Could the reason be stretched chains ? |

Anybody ? Regarding to info i have managed to get i understand it could be the stretched chains that are causing chain timing to move. So the salvation might be to replace chains, tensioners etc or just take off valve covers set timing on hope it will run for a long time. If chains are too loose they will be scratching vanos solenoids.
Stretched chains should make noises after cold start but i am not getting any, also if to open oil filler plug and try to lift chain with fingers it lets me to lift it 2-3 mm which is not a catastrophe ? I have been looking at camshaft adaptation values(https://www.upload.ee/image/8101397/015.jpg) for few last month and for example input Bank 2 value has raised from 137,6 to almost 140! My question is what will happen if it goes up to 150 ? Will the engine just not start or will be not working correctly or the worst case scenario will be that piston will meet valve in the engine ? |

Not to say that this is the issue...but is there a reason you're thinking "stretched chain" instead of something very common to the N62 engines like the camshaft intermediate levers?
There should be enough discussion of this topic to do a google search...a search phrase like "BMW N62 intermediate levers" should pull up some discussions on this topic. Good luck.

Thank you for your comment, yes that also might be the problem, installed DIS v57 and did this morning intermediate lever test which was ok, also have been monitoring valve set point and eccentric shaft and given values match well real values, so it seems intermediate levers are good.
Dis some service function tests in DIS yesterday and will do some more today to see if anything changes. Also some people from other forums suspect that it might be stretched chains. I will be replacing thermostat some time soon and i will also take out clean and check VANOS solenoids, if the chains are stretched very much the should be marks on solenoid, but i believe that will not be the case. As i understand if chains are stretched they should be making noise at cold start (E53) but i am not getting any and they usually do not snap like chains on E70 without any worrying sounds. I am trying to figure out in my head how major or minor this camshaft adaptation thing really is, i am not sure if you can see same info in DIS (which was official BMW software), so if you cant see this info in DIS the dealer could not see this info and this problem would never pop up until chains would be making noises at cold start ... so maybe there is no major reason to worry too much about this issue, unit i decide to change changes if i will be driving my X5 for another 50k or 100k ... |
