Apologies-Looking for Oil Thread for M54

Right up front let me apologize for an oil thread. I was looking for a motor oil recommendation for my 3.0 M54 w/ 200k. I have found everything but. Thanks for a link, or a proper recommendation.

Thanks!

I buy Castrol Edge 5W30 at Costco. Full synthetic. And I don't care what anybody says about it.

Thanks!
I use Liquimolly, full synthetic 5w40 per my indy's recommendation. It lowered my oil usage. I have 217,000+ miles on my M54. Change my oil every 5000 miles. Use the Liquimolly engine flush at every change as well. Oil usage has gradually gone down since I stared using the engine flush as well. I think it is slowly degunking the oil rings so the oil can flow back down like it's supposed to.

I use Mobil 1 high mileage 10w30. I change when the count down timer trips based on liters of gas consumed. That makes a lot more sense than miles driven.

Thanks guys. So what I'm hearing is any of these viscosities are fine with the Vanos. My oil consumption dropped radically when I had the new CCV system installed. Just want to keep her running as long as I can. She looks and runs great. Thanks for the help!

My Indy too made the switch from Castrol to Liqumoly 5W 40 for both my 99 E39 (120k) and 02 E53 (130k) a couple of years ago. It did lower the oil usage in the E53 - the E39 has never used any.

From what I've read, higher mileage, higher viscosities are better. My Indy said I could even run 10w60 racing oil!

My wife's M54 goes through oil about the same mix as a2-cycle engine when cold and short drives.

Weather warms up and problem goes away so CCV is planned for next fall. I'm thinking of adding a heater (using a motorcycle handlebar heat wrap)

So Ravenol offers a high mileage group 4 synthetic in the states now because I hounded them to get it imported since last year. Not sure if you're looking for something like that or not.
