Headlight Issue

On Friday my left front headlight went off.
But after I hit a small pothole, it came back on?
On Saturday I had a look at the globe, and the wiring near the connector is melted! I am lucky the exposed wires did not short and cause a fire.

I have cut off the melted wiring and connector and taped up the ends (electrical tape) till I can get a new connector or take the car to a sparkie.
But I want to buy a new connector first.

Any idea where I can get one without having to sell the children?

I live in Australia, but most international sellers will post a small item to us.

Cheers,

JG

Hard to be of help when we have no vehicle or type of light information. Year? Model? Build date? Type of headlights...halogen, HID/xenon, or adaptive bi-xenon?

Help us help you better...give us a little bit more details as to what you have so that we can make good suggestions/recommendations/answers.

I am pretty sure he's got a 2006 X5 3.0d with an automatic transmission, as for his lights...? No clue but should be adaptive bi's

Easiest fix is to re-wire the existing connectors. I don't think replacing the internal loom is an option. If you aren't able to do this yourself, any decent auto-sparkie can do it. Access is easier on the 3.0d - no air filter housing in the way.

This worries me as the OP's car is younger than mine! Last time is I was inside my headlights was a year ago, changing both HID lamps. Wiring was in perfect condition with no sign of the dreaded insulation degradation that seems common in warmer climates. Guess I'm lucky living closer to the big ice.....

*edit* I'm actually in Sydney this week and would offer to fix this for you but I'm there for work and have zero extra time...

My Bad.

Yes, the car is a 2006 3.0D Auto.
The globes are H7 Halogen globes.

Re-wiring the existing connector is not an option as it is melted.

I have bought new (second hand) headlights (both sides as the ones on the car are cloudy).

Now all I have to figure out is how to change the headlights.
A quick inspection shows I have to remove the front bumper first.

My Saturday project.

Well there ya go... I don't think I've ever seen an LCI X5 E53 that doesn't have bi-xenon (HID) headlights fitted - at least not in this part of the world.

Mind you, I've only been in Sydney a few hours and I've seen more E53s here already than I've seen in about 3 years of looking around in NZ...!
