That does look a little more like a misalignment inside. I would probably re-do the install and tweak alignment with some nylon washers or such to get it into a better position. It does look like the back side of the handle is too close to centerline.

Not very happy with Trucktec brand door carrier: beware

Follow-up: since you just need a little up and out at the back side, were it my car I would remove the handle and cut a little bigger groove in the D.H.C. where it mates with the handle. The handle has a post and nut that slides into a slot on the DHC. Cut that groove 1-2mm wider and then you can adjust the handle alignment

Yeah unfortunately it wasn’t me and have no idea how it’s installed on the inside. Scared to even look to see what I find.

This type of repair is all over the car were everything was put together by monkeys.

Part of me just wants to get OE DHC and do it all over.

The problem is with the age of these cars there is a fair chance you'll have just different problems even with OE. You don't have to open the door up to make the adjustment I'm describing. Look at a YouTube how to and you'll see what I mean.

Remove the lock cylinder
Remove the handle retaining nut
Pull off the handle.
File/Dremel/drill the slot in the DHC
Replace the handle.
Adjust the position up and out
Dry fit the lock cylinder

Repeat the adjustment part until happy

Install the lock cylinder.

Ok I was able to raise the handle up, after I removed the allen bolt and pulled out the lock cylinder out I was able to see that they didnt tightened the 8mm nut while the handle wasn’t all the way in the slot.

But now, I have a gap between the handle and the lock cylinder =/

I don’t think this can be adjusted because the distance between the front screw and the allen bolt is fixed with no wiggle room correct??

There is supposed to be some gap there but you for possibly tweak that by removing the handle and re working the front screw of the DHC. There is a nylon washer to protect the paint that people often install wrong.

Compare the gap to the other side of the car or other BMWs

This is the gap after I adjusted:

This is the gap on the other side:

I’m assuming the other side is oem.

It looks like the lock cylinder is too far back as much as the handle is too fast forward.

I think to fine tune that gap, you can maybe add a washer to the 8mm nut shaft. It does look a lot better already

Well once I start to tighten the allen bolt the lock cylinder kinda aligns itself with the screw hole and has no movement.

Like I said the front screw and the allen hole is fixed and part of the same metal so I don’t see how a washer will improve? Wouldn’t that just push the handle further away from the lock?

Or are you saying the passenger side (assuming its oem) is wrong? The gap should be there??
